After a few months without real golf because of snow I started the year off pretty well with a 37 on the front 9 and a 36 on the back for a solid 73. Hit everything fairly well except the driver putter was cold but irons were very solid. All in all im pleased with the start to the new year.

first round in four months and first round with new clubs so i wasn't expecting much....overall i was happy. i struggled to warm up and find my swing on the front, but it came around with a birdie on the par 5 7th and finished with two pars to finish with 45 on the front (that's right 10 over on 7 holes :)) played the back really strong, could have been a new 'best 9 hole score' for me, but i ran into some trouble on 16 and 17 (+3). shot a one over par 37 coming in for an 82 on the day. second half of the round showed a lot of promise for the future.

I hit a lot of fairways and greens today. I'm liking the FT-iQ more and more everyday.

I had to quote myself from yesterday...

Today I played 9 holes -- I hit 0% of fairways! Zero. Only hit GIR on 2, 4 and 9 - - but only FAILED to get up&down; on 3 and 7. Finished w/38 (+2). I still like the driver! I only got 4 hours of sleep last night (excuses excuses).

I had a 46 with 14 putts last night. I hope the ground dries up a little this week. The longest drive of the night went 210 in the air and 2 on the ground. I actually repaired my ball mark in the fairway. :D

First round of the year. Walked the front 9 of Venango Valley twice. 50 the first time through with a 10 on #3 (tree knocked down the second then I started chipping....disgusting). 44 the second time through with 3 pars.

I shot an 89. 50 on the windy front 9 and 39 on the more calmer back 9. Winds were blowing 18-25 mph. Still can't get used to playing in windy conditions. Weather should be better this weekend to score better.

43 today....played the back today as I was getting bored with playing the front nine. 14 putts, 2/7 fairways, and 2 GIR. Still without a driver. I was a bit off today for whatever reason with my irons and even the 3h off the tee. I was chipping and pitching well and as a result had 4 one putts.
I fixed my lag putting as well and did not 3 putt (knocking on wood). I also sank 2 six footers for par.

I did take one triple on a par five which was the fault of my tee shot.

My ball striking has improved ten fold over last year.

Just did very quick math and it looks like if I keep it up I may be down to 15 by the end of the month??

+5 41 on the back 9

Hit 5 fairways and 4 greens in regulation

The greens were still in bad shape however and I left some putts in the 6 - 10 foot range that I feel were makeable in good condition. All in all a very good round

First round of the year today. Played great...solid 75 after starting my year double bogey - bogey. Felt great, loved the new Diablo 3 wood and hybrid. Hit some absolute dead pure shots...and a few a little sloppy. All in all...I love playing golf. Course was empty, my friend and I finished 18 holes in three hours walking.

Round 3 for me this year. Shot a 46/46 for a 92. Thought I might have done better, as I started with three straight pars, closed with two consecutive pars, and had another one in the middle, but I blew up with several triples and didn't hit the green on any of the par 3's. Greens were really slow, but that makes it easier for me ... 36 putts and I will take that.

Just a casual stroll around my club Mawson Lakes. Warm and humid as anything!

42 Front, 43 Back - 85, nett 71 (par 70)
7 pars, 7 bogeys, 4 doubles (incl 1 water hazard, and 1 OB)
28 putts incl a chip in on 17 (handy)
missed a 4 footer on the last that would've saved my h/c.

Played 9 holes today. Shot a 39 (+5).
Putting was really good which made up for some of my woeful drives.
5 pars, 3 bogeys, 1 double

They say golf is like life, but don't believe them. Golf is more complicated than that.

First round of 2010, played at Downing.

Shots were almost never outside of my cone. A bunch out on the toe but I sort of addressed that later on - stance had gotten too much on the toes.

Missed virtually every green but by being just short (the toe contact + cold weather). VERY pleased with the work I put in over the winter.

I played for the first time since last October. It felt good to get out and play. I spend most of my time now helping my two youngest children with their games. I shot a 74,(two over) while missing 4 putts under 6 feet for birdies. Just a little rusty, but I was pretty happy for not playing in quite awhile.

I played my local 9 hole course for the first time today since last fall. I shot a 46 (which is 1 worse than my best ever) and missed 3 putts for par. But I did hit 2 12' putts to save par on 2 of my 3 pars on the day.

I had a triple on the first hole as I was working the kinks out of my iron play, and overall am very excited about the upcoming season.

In my bag:

some golf clubs

a few golf balls

a bag of tee's some already broken the rest soon to be

a snickers wrapper (if you have seen me play, you would know you are not going anywhere for a while)

and an empty bottle of water

Almost achieved one the goals I set for myself yesterday, only having the one double (thanks to lifting the eyes on the chip shot)

Front 43, Back 40.
-1 nett 69.

My mate shot the lights out on the back. A 22 handicapper going 3 over the stick! He ended up with 43 stableford points.

Went out to our local 'pasture' course today. It use to be a par 69, but they added 9 more holes and changed the layout around, which is actually worse then what it was, and is now a par 66. Once it dry's out, there will be another combination that is a par 68.

Anyways, shot a 75 (9 over). 8 over on the front, and 1 over on the back. Used my GX-I for the first time today and had 50% GIRs.

    • Great point - my experience from the 2004 Oakland Hills Ryder Cup. I got 4 tickets for Friday, had some buddies go with me and we saw shots on about 4 holes. You really have to decide who you want to see, then try to jump ahead to see them somewhere on the back 9. If you got into the grandstands then you'd likely have a good view only of that green/tee box.  Sidenote: I knew a guy who was a member at Birmingham CC, and he was a marshal on the 18th hole and he was out there all day, both morning and afternoon groups. And he had 1 group play the hole in the morning and another in the afternoon. Huge corporate tents around the 18 green, along with some grandstands. And you get to see maybe 6 or 7 shots counting the approach and putts.  Learned my lesson, I have no issue in going to another Ryder Cup, especially at the prices they want for 2025. I think it was $40 for a practice round (went to one of those as well) and maybe $75 for Friday/Saturday, $100 for Sunday. And it was "limited" to 20,000 tickets/day, which is still very crowded to follow 4 pairings around the course.
    • Of course he can score in the low 70's in a really short course driving it that short. But the course rating is going to be in the 60's so is not like he can call himself a scratch player.
