Another Tuesday night and another disaster. Same script as always. Start out well and fall to pieces when pace of play goes to hell. 2.5 hours to play 9 holes. Due to the amount of people who showed up played in a group of 5 with some less talented players to make it even worse. Nothing like hitting a drive down the middle and waiting for 3 guys to hit 3 shots a piece before you can play your ball or even get to your ball to assess the situation. Bout to the point of saying hell with it and spending my Tuesday nights in a better place. By the 3-4 hole I’m begging for the misery to end every week it seems/

I hate that too, but I have a cure for that it’s Ready golf.  Just hit when your ready.  I’m a rhythm player, have to keep moving.  Only way I can slow down is to put the bag down and walk away from it. If your riding with someone get out of the cart and walk to your ball and assess your situation.  Take control of you, see if it works next time.  Just a thought!

89. Great outing on a hot day. I’ve been off the forum for awhile.  My swing got so messed up I couldn’t break 100. Really frustrating.  But I’m on the right track now, got some lessons and now striking the ball again.
I almost had a no-7’s until a bad chip caused an 8 on a par 5 that bedevils me.

Pretty decent round.  Started on back 9 and went 8 over (bogey x 4, par, double x 2, par x 2. The front 9 was much better with 2 over (par x 3, bogey x 2, par x4). 10 over on a par 71 course. Only lost one golf ball which accounted for one of the doubles  🤦‍♂️

Shot 98 at Crumpin-Fox Club in Bernardston, MA last Friday.  Played pretty well by my standards.  I have also determined that I play much better without my 60* wedge and it is now in the closet.  I had 4 pars thru 11 holes and had a few mishaps after that.

Shot a 102 yesterday but was very pleased with 5 GIRs (I typically get 2-3 per round), two birdies, and one par.  Multiple blow-up holes, though, so there's that, too.  *shrug*

I've played that course before - love the ( I think) 7th hole with the water down the stretch on the left side.

Played a par 32 9 holer this morning before doing chores. Some nice par 3's,  212, 189, yds. A number of them are 110-132 yds. Perfect for me getting to know the new 50 degree Zipcore I added to the bag recently. Hit the pin twice with my tee ball. Neither dropped. Shot a 34........ with 4 birds and some lost balls I couldnt find even though I was positive they were in play, We have had so much rain in the Detroit area recently they  weren't able to mow all week.....

94 again today (47 / 47).  Takeaways for the day - drives were consistent, except for on 17 where I pulled it hard right (not duck hook, but def right).  Stats - 9/14 on fairways hit, 3 GIR and 3 nGIR.  Putting was decent as the course greens are still patchy at best, had several putts that would have gone of the surface was more consistent. Biggest takeaway was the ball striking with the irons.

Yea I do try. 2nd hole last week, the 11th, I hammered a drive. Par 5 and I had 205 to pin. 185 to cover front. It took 2 of the guys 3 shots to reach my ball. I was center of fairway. I was out of my cart staying loose and active prior to my shot. I made birdie so it worked. As the round went on tho I got more and more frustrated stopped caring. It was definitely a mental lapse. I need to try and stay focused and active. No question you are correct. I think I’m headed to the range too early before I play and that’s also causing me to lose focus earlier. Maybe this week I’ll try and go to the range later and hit fewer shots so I can hopefully maintain my focus deeper into the day. I’ll go expecting a long day and if it’s quick it’s a win.

I'm the same way.  Get stuck behind slow play and I just lose interest

The last 2 weeks have been miserable. It’s a 2 man handicap league and we are comfortably ahead in the standings. I’m leading the league in skins earned and money so it hasn’t been a total waste I guess. Still I need to find a way to bring the enjoyment back to the Tuesday evening round as opposed to fighting through it and dreading it. I’m definitely going to veto the 5 man group if that comes up again. Bad enough when you are behind slow play but having your own group slowing you down hurts too. Play with good players and it elevates your game. Play with lesser players and it can drag you down. My partner and I are both comparable. We are each catching 4 a side right now. The other guys are closer to double digits. It does drag me down.

Not been here in a while. Long time reader, not very regular poster.

Not today, but last week played my first round in over a year so was expecting it to be rough. Having not hit a ball in approx 6 months it could have gone far worse... Saying that, it realistically couldn't have gone much better!

Started off playing conservatively but didn't want to pussyfoot about and just went for it off the first tee. Bit daunting as it's right in front of the club house, but launched it down the left side into the rough, but only about 70-80 yards short of the green, which was a result as its supposedly 340 from the yellow. Second shot was just over the green after a lovely contact from the rough 🙈 which left a little chip onto the green followed by 2 putt for 5.

Second hole hit the green in 2 (par 4 328yds), followed by a 3 putt...

Decided to play a bit more cautiously after that and had one of my best rounds ever! 84 (+12) which considering I was +10 on the front 9 is an incredible result. Never been less than +5 for 9 holes so left over the moon as you can imagine.

Murderous round today - shot a 113.

Full swing was a disaster as I was hooking pretty much everything left and when I didn't, my contact was bad, either toeing the ball or hoseling it putting people lives in danger...twice.  9 penalty strokes and 3 alone on the second hole.   Best hole was 18 where I finally got a GIR and made my only par.

Actually looked like I knew what I was doing in my league tonight for first time in a few weeks. Nearly hit the first in 2 and lipped out a birdie putt settled for par. 2 was my only bad hole. Made a double. Bladed flop shot and missed a short putt. Par at 3. Stuck a 9 iron to a foot for a tap in bird at 4. Lipped out a birdie at 5 made par. Nice up and down par at 6. Lipped a birdie out at 7. Technically up and down at 8 although I was only on the fringe. Lipped out a bird at 9 and made par. Was 1 over gross and -3 net. I’ll take it. Signs of life for me!

Not a bad round today.  Started off with two GIR and hence pars, and then two bogeys.  The 5th hole was the first bad one since we got stuck behind a slow group and were pushed from behind by a quicker 3 ball and the waiting and hitting a quick shot led to a miserable tee shot on the par 3 and I wound up with double bogey. Then I somehow managed to recover and went par, bogey, bogey par. That made for 6 over on the front 9.  Then stopped for breakfast and the 3 ball behind us went ahead, making our round less stressful.  Had two pars and then 6 bogeys in a row before a final par. 12 over.  The thing I enjoyed most was that I was generally hitting my shots reasonably well

98 (49 / 49) - while that may not seem like a good score, I had some great takeaways.  First - I used to "blow" it on one side or the other, I have seen a steady trend of what the front to back scores being within a couple of strokes.  I feel that is me developing consistency.  Second - had some legit looks at birdie that became 3 putts.  The greens are not that smooth (rough patches everywhere) so it is hard to know if it is my stroke or the ground that is causing these misses (not fun when the ball suddenly sidehops).  Third - work in the yard to have a consistent setup routine paid off as shots were consistently in the short grass.  Last - I played the member tees (white) and should have stayed on the golds.  Still I like to stretch it out - we did not hold anyone up so that was good.  Just know that my drives are not long enough to play those tees consistently.

Kid and I played 18 today, but it was a trial. We were behind three 4somes of geriatrics who were certainly taking the time to smell the flowers. Not a damn care in the world. I got a little pisssy with one of them when they teed off coming back the other way, on the adjacent hole to our right.  My  kid and I both drove up the right side of our fairway to better access the far left hand pin placement. My kid caught an overhanging branch and his ball came down barely off the fairway about 230 out. My ball went at least 40 yards further and got over a little knoll, but was obviously well in the fairway. The toolbag and his partner come driving up our fairway and he gets out and pick up a ball. I figured it must be an extra he hit. Then we keep riding towards each other and he stops at my kids ball, looks at it and picks it up. Jumped into his cart and proceeds to his ball.....  I was like WTF?  I pulled up to him and told him that was our ball he picked up. He says "How do you know?" Kid told him what it was. I told him he shouldn't be picking up balls on another fairway with people driving towards it.,... He begrudgingly toss us the kids ball. Yea, after the kid hit, it was obvious he had picked up my ball as well....... I didn't chase him down and berate him but I was sure tempted. What an asshole.....

New personal low 86 at Whitney Farms in Monroe, CT. 41-45. On the back I had two triples including a shank into the hazard area. The fact that I reeled off 3 straight pars post shank made me so proud of myself regardless of the score. I have a habit of letting mistakes compound but I just took a breath, refocused and forgot it happened.

I had 31 putts which I think is also a personal best and I don’t want to put too much stock in it but I decided TODAY to try a new putting strategy. For the past few years I’ve putted with almost a pitchy loose wrist stroke that I had good distance control with but would miss short putts. Recently I tried keep the right wrist (I’m a lefty) stiff and it helped ALOT with short putts but I had no feel for distance so my second putts were still not short. I decided to do my wrist putt for my first putt (unless I was inside like 10 feet) and then change it up to the stiffer wrist for short putts. Seemed to work out! Will see if it still works tomorrow.
