What'd You Shoot Today?

I tried to go play yesterday at Palmetto Golf Course, finished the front 9 with a 51 which isn't horrible for me, but my short game for some reason is giving me issues, should have shot a 45 at worst. It started to rain hard midway thru hole 11 that was a par 3, par'd the hole but that is where I finished.

Shot 4 over par today...From the girls tees. Ha ha!

The course was fogged in with enough visibility to barely make out where the flag stick was at 40 yards. Any further and the visibility was zero.

I decided to just play from the girls tees with my wife and only hit irons off of the tee so we would have a decent chance of keeping track of the ball.

On several approach shots I just had to take a guess where the green was and guessed wrong a few times.

6610 yds.  71.1/121.....home course.

76 with 2 birdies, including a really nice one on the 201 yard 16th......a little down wind, and the tee shot hit within 8 inches of the hole and stopped dead.  You gotta love hybrids........no way I could do that with a 4 iron.

Also dunked my drive on the first hole but managed to dig out a bogey.  Nothing worse than starting with a double......

I hit 9 greens, but most of my missed greens were very close for the most part and I still feel like I'm striking the ball a little better.

Wednesday,

45-42-87, Dales Course, Communicty Golf Club, Dayton, OH

After 17 months of hooks, slices, toppers, fats, shanks and even complete misses, I broke 90 for the first time. If this was my last time out this year, it was a great way to go. Finished birdie, par and ran the final putt in from 15 feet.

Nothing at all wrong with that. Nice job, especially on that back nine!

I played Western Skies today. Only my 4th round of the year so I am still pretty rusty. Hopefully for many more in 2014. Any way, I shot 50-48 for an even 100. 36 putts though, which is an improvement. Cold morning for us zonies with the frost from last night. About 38 degrees at the start. I know, I shouldn't be complaining about that!

81/80 ESC front 38 back 43 par 72 rate 72.5 slope 135

2 birdies,7 pars,8 bogies,1 triple

Fairways 9 GIR 8 putts 31

Frost delayed the start by an hour and a half and then we did shot gun and that didn't allow any warm up time since the range was closed also.Had one of my better putting rounds just because I think I'm finally after a year and half learning to putt on these slick greens at my home course, if they were as slow as most other places my index might be a shot or two lower but I think I'm better off at nearly 5 right now. The triple I had was as simple as bad ball position on my setup and I should have stepped away but we needed to catch up to the next group to avoid penalty, anyway made the worst contact of the day with a 5 iron from 182 at a par 3, put it in "enviromentally sensitive" took penalty and pitch came up short in trap blasted out missed putt and there is a 6.

Santa Anita blues, 70.6/122 44/48 for a 92 Let me clarify the conditions: The first three tees it was raining pretty hard, and I got bogey, par, par. then it slowly stopped raining and got colder and "thicker". The temperatures started off 46F and went to the low 50s, and back down to the 40's again. My 4i reached a 195 yard par 3 at around noon, but my 5i did not even reach 180 later in the day as the temperatures dropped and the light was fading. The parties in front of us were hitting balls back and forth on the fairway. Took forever for them to clear, for a 4.5 hour round. All the drives were shorter in the wet cold conditions, so a 205 yard par 3 played like 225. One of my playing partners needed a driver for that hole, but hit a few yards too far. I hit a 19 degree hybrid, and it left a big soggy hole where it landed inches from the ball. I was the only one who was pin high. Thick is the only word for it. Not your typical So. Cal. weather. Did I mention is was cold and soggy and raining? The conditions changed so much I left 3 putts all over the place (don't say anything rkim1968 :-P)? The greens were fast in one place then slow in another. It's tough making GIR and leaving with a bogey or worse, I felt home free only to arrrggghhh. Ok, no excuses, I hope to do much better tomorrow.

I played Saturday morning in a misty, muggy, 70 degree day. Started out -2 after three holes. Then my real game showed up and ended up shooting an 84. On a brighter note finished with the fewest putts than I have had in a LONG time.

    • New clubs came in this morning and I happened to be working in the area so I picked them up. PING G430 Max 3W (-1.5°) with PING Tour 2.0 Black 75, X-Stiff at -1/2" PING G430 3H with PING Tour 2.0 Chrome 85, X-Stiff Those replace my old fairway wood and hybrid, making all 14 clubs in my bag fitted. I'm going to need new excuses for bad shots 😜
    • Ooh, I don't know about that. I've hit flop shots that are 6-7° down. The more you widen the spin loft the less ball speed you put into the ball.
    • Re: your graphic, ‘ I expected a little more from a varsity letterman.’ Lol…just another one for @boogielicious
    • Can't brag about a 50 last night but it was the best round of my season (4 rounds of 9 holes) so I am not as upset as I could be.  One thing I am noticed is that I got a little more confident in my long hybrids and I attempted a couple longer shots that typically I would just lay up and those holes were a big part of the lower score.  Not every shot was great but good enough that they helped.  I even shot par on a Par 5 after taking a drop.  On that hole I would usually lay-up to @ 100 yards and often miss the green altogether with my 3rd shot (or worse chunk my approach and put it in the waste area).  Yesterday I went for it from @ 200 yards out with wind in my face and landed in the waste area short of the green.  My drop left @ 40 yards in and I stuck it to 3 feet for my par putt.  If I had laid up I would have avoided the penalty stroke but likely would not have been on the green in regulation and may still have been working for par.  By going for it I gave myself a chance at birdie and still saved par. I do not plan on being crazy aggressive but I think I tend to be too conservative at times so I will "go for it" a little more often going forward.
    • Day 14 (15 May 24) - Worked with the SW in the backyard, short pitches from 10yds up to 30yds.   Focused on ball placement in stance - ball back, ball forward, ball center.  Afterwards moved to inside the shop to work on putting pace on the rug - putting one way gives about an 8' putt, going the other a 6' before bumping onto the adjacent rug.  Focused there on the line - picking a target point about 18"-24" out and making sure the ball rolls through that point.
