What'd You Shoot Today?

Recommended Posts

What a difference a day makes. Yesterday I shot one over par 73 and today came back to reality and was 8 over 38-41=79.  The difference? Harder course today and better short game yesterday. Also, I had 3 bogies yesterday and today I had 9. The good news was that I still broke 80 and only lost one ball in the leaves.

I love this game.

43+40=83 to close out the season! Best round of the year, good way to end it I'd say. Hitting my driver either straight or slight fade, and finally found my iron swing again. Now if I can just hold onto it until Spring!

Awful day, with nothing going right. I parred the first three holes but it was fool's gold, as one was with a 25 foot putt and another was with an unbelievably difficult chip-in. The chip-in was an admittedly great shot, and would have ended up as a tap in bogey at worst,  but the fact that it went in was luck.

I only made two more pars, one of them being a sandy (the only thing working was my sand game; I could have had two more sandies if I made relatively easy putts). That is probably my last posted round for the season.

Brookside Course 2 (6046) par 70 back 9: 42; Front 9 (excluding holes 5(par 3) and 6(par 4)) 35. Played to a 15 HC (Practice round)

Played 7,8,9, 10-18 first then came back around played with some other people finishing on 4 with a bogey. Mostly, bogey (some doubles on the front offset with pars on the back 9). Short putts were pretty abysmal even for me. 9:20am cutoff because I have a teleconference at 10:00am. Almost no traffic this morning, from the course. Most of my shots later in the round were 20-30 yards from the green. About 7, at the start of the round were within 20. I kept hitting the heel on my irons, and lost 10 yards from what I was expecting on the last holes I played. Probably my muscles giving in on the last few holes. Going to rest tomorrow, and resume training Sunday afternoon.

Just played three days in a row, walking every time. Today was a lot like yesterday in reverse. Yesterday I shot 38-41=79 @ River Forest CC . Today it was 40-37=77 @ Buffalo GC . Both courses are par 71, located in Freeport, PA. Both days I lost only one ball in the leaves and played the course in about 2 hours, 45 minutes.

I love this game! :-D

Sunday,

Miami Shores GC, Troy, OH (Back nine)

47

After a couple of range sessions, I couldn't resist playing at least a little bit. Lack of wind made for a tolerable morning round here in SW Ohio.

The irons translated better from the range sessions than the 1W. Hit some real crisp approach shots and even had a few GIRs. No three-putts is always a good thing, but tee shots kept finding their way behind trees and that kept my score from being any better.

Brookside course 2  (6046 yards, par 70): 87

Shot a birdie on the shorter 271 yard par 4, and followed it on a 127 yard par 3 with a double from a hooked PW, that went 10 yards past the green to the right just beneath a tree, which I hit on a subsequent shot onto its root, chipped onto the green from the root for a 2 putt. Just getting used to the burner clubs with their deep offset. Doubled another hole, offset with a par. The rest were bogey. 10 near GIR (/emoticons/f4_glare.gif"/>

87.

Not the best day for me.  Not the way I wanted to celebrate my first 'real' handicap in the single digits.

On the other hand, 20-25 mph winds made for some fun drives: two drives under 200yards, three in the 270s, and one that made it to 322 (!).  (FYI: I average ~240.)

Brookside Course 1 (6700, par 72) back 9: No total score.

Made two pars, 4 GIR, 2 roll offs. The proudest moment was recovering from a duffed drive (100 yards) on a 548 yard par 5, then hitting to a near GIR in three.

Nice day for playing golf today so my wife and I played a round. I shot +2 with 2 birdies and hit the ball pretty well.

On a side note I think I broke my record for lipping out consecutive birdie putts. I did it on each of the first four holes.

All of those putts were from over 12 feet so not something I would necessarily expect to make but darn it I thought I had every one of them until the last inch or two.

After posting 3 excellent sub-80 scores and losing only two balls last week, I shot my normal 41-42=83 today and lost 3 balls in the leaves.

Shot 41-43=84 at Buffalo GC in Freeport, PA. (Last week I shot 77.)

After playing 4 rounds without a double bogie, I had two in the span of 5 holes. DRAT! I hate DOUBLE BOGIES!

50 + 47 = 97 Forgot how to play in the middle two holes and shot a crazy +8 3 double bogies on back nine killed my score too I didn't help my self as I left 90% of approach shots short and couldn't get up and down even though I was ngir on most of them.

I played today at my club and was hoping to have a fun round with my friends. I started off par, double double (:/). I then went 1 under through the next 8 and finished with a 79 (slope of 137, sr of 71), which is only the second time i have broken 80 (last time being last year). On the 14th hole (par 5) I hit my bunker shot to a foot (to save par) and on the next hole (par 3) i hit my chip through a Y shapes tree, also to a foot!

My one swing thought was to move laterally through impact and to make sure the hands and body were working together (I feel like my body moves to quickly, leading to some nasty fades/slices). I hit my driver a total of 5  (hit 1 fw) times and hit my trust ping rapture 4w the rest.

Today was great! :D

shot a 79  on a Par 71 today. It had me at 7 over on the front and only one over on the back. I owe it to a email from David McKenzie on a pre shot routine/looking at the ball. Took me 7 holes to get it to start going but once I did I hit every fairway and GIRs went up as well. Just wished weather wasn't changing so quickly so I could ingrain this. And it worked woods, Irons and putter.

One note though this was a 3 club and putter round which I find really makes you plan your shots better. And David's routine makes you see your shot much better and forget every thing else. Even had 2 shots that drove by as I was swinging and I didn't even realize it till I finished the shot.  Great guy to follow of any one interested.  Puts out some good stuff.

Yesterday I shot 44/44,88 then today I shot 47/47,94.....both rounds at Pebble Creek GC in Tampa.

Had 3 rounds on the weekend:

79 with a triple bogey to finish, 77 & 75.

Improving with a lot more consistency, i think the main part of improvement for me has been staying out of trouble off the tee and chipping, chipping, chipping!

    • Not really, no. I don't know the history, what you've worked on, what you've tried and moved away from… etc.
    • Day 9: 2/16/25 Putting through 50 mm gates from 11”. Swing pressure shift drills.
    • Definitely not a favorite… For some reason my wife and I started watching Cobra Kai. I know the original was pretty cheesy, but the inability of these people to get over shit that happened like 30 years ago is astounding. And these kids would be arrested, but they don’t even seem to get suspended from school. Would Danny not notice that Johnny’s son looks like Johnny? Etc.? Why would a completely different dojo that has the same name be “banned”? Oy. Not sure we’ll make it to season 2.
    • Day 139 - 2025-02-16 Weather led to a rescheduled GEARS lesson, so I used the time to work on my swing for 60 minutes or so. All downswing stuff. Some swings at 93 MPH. Most around 75-80.
    • A question I have is…this swing (fade, pull cut) does not  feel as good and easily repeatable as the draw swing we were working on previously.  I’m kinda in a weird spot where I do not know which direction will be the best to pursue. I like seeing a penetrating 5 yard draw but also like the thought of the fade not getting away from me as much.    Any thoughts on that?
