She doesn't seem to understand the concept of momentum.

She acts, right up until she's hit, like LeBron is going to be able to stop himself or something. She doesn't really do much at all to get out of the way or minimize impact. Her arms are up, "kinda," but she's looking at the ball and not the giant man about to crash into her.

How does she have any time to react?

The same way anyone has time. She's not even looking.

Mike Golic: Jason Day Should Have Protected His Wife from LeBron James

Quote

Now, we should allow for the very realistic possibility that Golic was joking. Considering the physics at play, it’s hard to believe anyone could actually react quickly enough to stop a 250-pound man’s momentum on a dime from a seated position.

Even if Day could have reacted quickly enough, not sure what he could have done.

I read/heard a research on people's reaction when facing imminent disaster - e.g, just about to get hit by car.   With a fraction of second to react, some people will jump out of the car but ,surprisingly, many will froze and get hit.

Only chance would be MAYBE to try to deflect him to the right a bit more so he takes out the other women. Pretty big maybe.. lol

Otherwise, what is he going to do? Jump in the way and add to the carnage that gets pilled up on the floor?

I think right up until the time the LeBron jumps, everyone thought he would stop himself ... but lets me real ... from a family financial stand point ... His wife taking one "for the team" was admirable.  :-D

Are you watching it at real speed.

She's sitting relaxed, boxed in from either side and from behind, only place to go is forward and to the side.  But from a relaxed sitting position, most people are not going to be able to get out of the way.  Look at the people on either side, they were only able to get their arms up, lean back and move a few inches to the side.  None of the four around her were quick enough to get out of the way.

And there wasn't even enough time for Jason, an elite athlete, to make much of a move.

I disagree. I've had soccer balls kicked at my face from short distances and I can react. So do other players (I'm not claiming some special skill here). She's frozen, and not even watching the large man that's about to hit her.

Anyway, I'm glad she's okay.

It had to have been surreal from her perspective.

I would have liked to see the video from their perspective ... Surprising that no one reacted until James was literally in their face.

LeBron was running towards her full speed, did she really think he'd be able to stop his momentum in the short distance between her and the court?  She saw him coming and had time for her to react, but she froze.  I'm glad she's okay.

I liken it to when you see a big wave coming and you think that it will not reach you.
