I did it.  After 9 and a half years of nonstop playing golf, I finally made a hole in one. I can die without a regret now.   😃

I finally broke 100 for the first time since picking up golf in May 2019. This was at a Par 72 golf course in Barboursville, WV (Esquire Golf Course). My focus during this round was to hit all shots with a smooth tempo using a "tick tock" swing cue. Sounds dumb when your out there saying it out loud lol but I've never been more consistent. My final score on the course was 90.

I got my first ever eagle on Friday.

I played from the white tees at Elk Horn Golf Club in Stockton, CA. On the Par 5 6th hole (454 yards per the scorecard). I hit my driver 275 yards over a fairway bunker on the left side of the fairway. When I initially hit the shot I thought I had gone into the bunker. When I got up to the bunker, I didn't see the ball and discovered I had cleared the bunker and was sitting on the left side of the fairway 180 yards from the flag. On my second shot, I hit my 4h to within 8 feet of the pin. The put was slightly downhill and left to right. I wanted to be sure of birdie, so I concentrated mainly on speed and ended up sinking the putt for my first ever eagle.

Congrats! Also… Sorry!

You see… we don't have an award for that, but one stroke lower and we would. 🙂

#3 at my home course, Southwinds in West Boca Raton, is a par 4, only about 350 yards.  I often par it, but I have never got a birdie there.  I usually hit my 3H off this tee because it is so narrow and unforgiving.  Out with my son yesterday for fun though, I found the driver in my hand. The tees were way in the back of the box, but I hit it decent with some draw or possibly got wind-blown left.  It rolled out to not quite 280, leaving about 70 to the pin.

With the 50* wedge, I hit a 2/3 swing that bounced several times before dropping in the cup for Eagle!  My 10-year old was upset at his own shot, so he was both laughing and grousing at the same time.

Mates, that capped some of the best golf I have ever played.  We played the back 9 last Saturday, where I shot 40.  This week the eagle was the high point of a 39 on the front.  Technically, I made 79 on the course (EDIT: though it is only a par 70) - all carefree golf, just teaching my son the game.  Maybe the lesson for him is to not *try* very hard. :)-

I can't believe I've never done this.

I had a hole in one on August 16, 2010 on the 171 yard third hole at Twin Bridges Golf Club in Gadsden, Alabama.

I've also broken 100 on several occasions.

Got 'em both! Congrats on the ace especially!

You're a 14.2 that's never broken 90?

Thanks for the recognition.

That 14.2 was based on some online handicap tracker over a decade ago.  Back tees, slope of 140, and a steady diet of low to mid-nineties.  Probably should have moved up.  I took it down, because it is so old and outdated, and I have played very infrequently as of late.  Hoping to change that.

Still stoked from my round of breaking 100 for my first time today in less than desirable weather! Shot 92 without any OB, penalty strokes or lost balls. I still had plenty of mishits but kept them in play. Slow progress

    • I have trouble with vertigo on occasion, but have gotten nutritional and biofeedback tips to keep it at bay. Dehydration can help trigger v-like symptoms so one recommendation, along with maintaining overall hydration, is to start with 8 oz. of water early in the morning. A meta-analysis on Golf As Physical Activity indicated that golf is rated as a moderately intensive physical activity. This scientific literature review came from the University of Edinburgh. The physical activity level ties into hydration. A former university colleague was a marathon runner who had published a couple of articles on endurance training. He likewise said that golf was a moderate physical activity especially when the round stretched past  the two-hour mark. For hydration he recommended switching from water to electrolyte drink on the back nine (past two hour point of exercise) to prevent cramping. At the two-hour point of moderate activity, water starts flushing electrolytes out of the body, which can lead to fatigue and cramping. (I have had trouble with leg cramps in the past during exertion.) During a round, I start out with water on the front nine and switch to sports drink on the back nine. If the day is unusually hot, I may drink 8 oz. of Pedialite concentrate before going to the course. Maintaining overall hydration plus on-course boosters keeps me going.
    • Personally I’d try booking direct first - either via the Vidanta golf reservations number/email or through the resort concierge - especially for Christmas/New Year. Vidanta’s main courses (Greg Norman and Nicklaus designs) are popular and can book out fast this time of year, so direct often gives you the best shot at your preferred tee times.
