Here's another bracket you can fill in in March. The big three are in the field although it's match play. Watson, DJ, Mickelson and Fowler too.

So excited this is happening in Austin. What little I've seen of the track so far has been impressive.  My son is going to have his party boat anchored near one of the holes on Sat, maybe Sun too (he couldn't care less about pro golf although he does think Joran and Rickie are pretty cool).  Should be a rip-roaring week, wish I could get down there for it.

As for a pick:  I'd be hard-pressed to go outside the top 10 because most of them are on form right now.

I took Rickie beating out Jason Day. My wild pick is Daniel Berger beating Phil to advance from his group.

Besides the majors and the players this is one of my favorite tournaments to watch.  I wish I wasn't going out of town this weekend so I'd have more time to watch it.

I filled out the damn bracket 5 different times and it still won't fricken save. How annoying. Guess I won't be winning the laptop... I had it all figured out too...

Looks like a cool course.

Love the hazards right next to the greens.

I have Louis winning it all.

Uh oh.

Day tweaked his back.  I hope its nothing too bad, both for him personally and for the game of golf.

Boy, Day really looked bad after hurting himself out there.

This course looks really interesting from what I'm seeing so far. They're not showing a ton of overheads of the holes, which is dumb considering this is a new course. From my limited view, it looks like a course that would be a lot of fun to play.

Man Phil is putting a beating on Fitzpatrick. Ill let Rickie pass on losing to Duffner considering he birdied the last 2 holes for the win.

Only A player who lost so far is DJ, I think, but don't think Day is coming back out tomorrow.

Really cool place, I've seen it from the lake but this coverage has given me a completely new perspective.  Agree on missing the overhead shots, maybe the blimp will make it to town over the weekend.  Sure would like to play it sometime.  Hope my kid somehow bumps into Michael Dell or McConaghey and befriends them.

I think Day should back out of this thing or at least maybe concede today's match and then go for it tomorrow. Tiger will be the first to tell you not to mess around with back injuries.

This is the one reason I don't think Day is ever going to make it to the level Spieth and McIlroy will as their careers go on. I think he's a great talent when at the top of his game, but I just think injuries are going to be an issue his whole career. It has been so far. It's too bad.

Here are todays matches of players who both won yesterday:
Spieth/Dubuisson, ZJ/Kaymer, Day/Thongchai, Kisner/Bello - pretty amazing that there are only 4 matchups of yesterdays winners

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
