Currently got the wife editing my swing so I can post it, but I need some help in the meantime. My left shoulder keeps hitting my chin instead of passing under it. Any general tips that might fix this sort of thing?

Right. People of all ages and whatnot can do it, so the reasons why you aren't currently doing it are an unknown at this point. It's unlikely "because your chin is down too far."

I'm not certain about that. One of the first things we are all taught in golf is "keep your eye on the ball, and keep your head still". This causes many to bury their chins in their chests, so that their shoulder slams into their chin in the backswing.

My high school golf coach told us to keep our chins up, and "look down your nose at the ball". This allows for a more free shoulder turn.

And, if you look at pics of most better players looking down the line, you see pretty much of a straight line from the upper back through the neck and skull. There's no definite "hinge" at the shoulders.

After all, the OP said his shoulder hits his chin.

Look at the positions a1, a2, etc . .here :

If you can do a face on video of your swing, you can check against these positions . .or you can just do them slow motion in front of a mirror.  If you do them right, your chin will be under your shoulder . .or else maybe you'll fall down, lol . .just kidding . .your chin will be under your shoulder.

It's harder than it looks to do - try to pay attention that your knees aren't folding the wrong way while you're checking your arms, etc.

Did I mention it's harder than it looks to do?  It takes a lot of practice.  I'm getting better at it but I can't really hit static positions.  Perhaps not coincidentally, I can't hit them dynamically, either.  My current swing depends on inertia, a strong heart and elfen magic.

that would be a recipe for NO BUENO.

He could also just have a flat shoulder turn as well.

We don't really know until the video comes out. His wife is editing them. It's possible that he could be embarrassed*** by them or whatever, but if he wants any help he's going to have to show his swing.

We have no idea what is his issue without some reference.

I look in a mirror before passing judgement on others. I'm kind of embarrassed with my latest videos because I look really fat in them, but OTOH I'm not asking for help either. Anyway, I am still working on the same stupid problem I was 2 years ago.

Yeah - but it would be SUPER NO BUENO if your chin was touching your chest at address or something .. which is the only way I can literally imagine my shoulders hitting my chin.

My guess is  . .too shallow shoulder plan and perhaps not flexible enough to get the shoulder all the way under the chin.  I can get mine close . .but it's not quite directly under.

Why so? Even Ben Hogan said that there was a time during the swing when he "lost sight of the ball.". Maybe that was why Nicklaus turned his head to the right so that it seemed like he was looking at the ball with his left eye! Different strokes for different folks!

Chin up is bad advice.

Read that thread and many of the others here.

I've rarely, rarely had to tell anyone to stop burying their chin in their chest.

My guess is your head too much down. look at this video by shawn humphries. helped me a lot.

you may also have a flexibility problem.

The URL makes it sound like you want to have your "head up" but he mostly correctly says this is the best position:

I agree. That feels "chin down" to most people.
