Played again today, went well and started hitting the ball more cleanly and translated some more practice to match situations. Sneaked a long putt on the last for a win as well :).

Practiced with Driver and 5 wood and 7 iron also.  I wanted to apply a little bit more of lateral movement during the down swing and the follow thru.  The ball flied really straight. As you all know, there is a huge differences in degrees of Swing Planes (in particular One Swing Plane) between Driver and 7 iron, flatter vs stiffer.  The stiff swing plane will encourage more up-right swing, which I am trying to have more often.  Keep working.

Thanks.

Played a solo round. Everyone must have thought it would rain, and both the foursomes around me didn't want me to join. Must have been all that garlic I ate. :-D

No score kept as it was not a round by ROG. Started hitting multiple balls.

Tied up from 7:30 AM until 1 PM with graduation day.

After late lunch, I stopped off at home course and practiced short game for a half hour. Mainly used 54* from in close. I'm getting better sense of how to make little adjustments for the particular turf lie. Also practiced chipping with 58* from just off green with tight pin (8i comes off too hot for less than 15 feet).

Also practiced edge putts, those which run along the edge of a terrace without really going up or down. Too little break allowed, ball rolls down to lower level; too much allowed, and you have a 4-foot cleanup putt. Edge putts highly likely on Nos. 3, 12, 14, and on occasion 18.

Got home and mowed back yard before rains came. Finished up close cutting of wedge "green" area right when lightning started. More rain expected... sorry front yard!

Focus, connect and follow through!

Relaxed by the oversized mint julep I prepared myself during the Kentucky Derby, I spent about 30 minutes in my yard hitting half-shots with foam balls, trying to exaggerate hook and cut ballflights. I hit a draw rather effortlessly, but my attempts to fade usually end up straight down my stance line; I'm thinking about keeping the clubface open at impact, yet not striking a glancing blow.

Hit some 9I shots today, 3/4 swings and 3/4 speed focusing on a steady head, balance, and inline impact... Basically keys 1 through 3, I'm hitting the ball about 130 with the 3/4 swing with the 9i, dead straight.

Practiced short pitching and chipping in the back yard. Hit a few into the net as well. The backyard practice was good because my back yard is horrible.  So was able to practice pitching from hard pan, tight lies, buried lies etc.

Pretty sore from yesterday's round... yesterday, I kept coming up short with my chipping so I practiced some chipping with a wedge with a smaller loft (56 deg.) than what I was using.  (60 deg)

Spent 20 mins in the garden working on my chipping, which has been one of the facets shown up in Game Golf as being weaker than my handicap.

Just played 18.  Shot 91 from the red tees, I was really trying to break 90.  The times it went wrong were on tee shots where i was trying to drive the green with water or ob left and i pulled it a lil bit which caused me to have a penalty stroke.  Chipping needs work but putter was working fine.  Over all happy with round.

Practiced in the mirror begging my wife on Mother's Day if I could go spend all day at the range. Couldn't get it to look and sound right, so I moved on to just doing more A4-A7 slow motion mirror work. Also, tweaked my posture to have less tilt based on instructor feedback. Over time, I have apparently added more and more to have a significant tilt, whereas I just need a small amount. Reviewed the posture thread again.

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
