Branden Grace is going to be in the coveted "leader in the clubhouse" position once they blow the horn tonight. He's in at 1-under, and he'll be able to sleep in tomorrow while the leaders try to keep ahead of his mark.

(I picked Grace in the predictions contest as my second choice, but so did a lot of other people; I forget if I went for 2-under or 2-over. UPDATE: 2-under, plus anything less than that! Take it home in 69 or less tomorrow, Gracie! I want that pushcart!)

You are technically correct, which we all know is the best type of correct.  There can be only one "best," but that pile is like the NY Times "Bestseller" list:  a list of really good players who haven't won a major, but who we believe should have.  Unlike 2002, there isn't a clear "best" that needs to be the list of one.

Where is everybody? I've never seen so many empty seats at a US Open. There would be no empty seats if this was the US Open at Pinehurst. I have to wait and see what the final numbers are for attendance. But, this is not looking very good so far.

I'm sure that even at Pinehurst, when the leaders and/or big names are on one side of the course, it's really easy to find seats on the other side.  This was certainly true for 2008 at Torrey and I don't think that open was hurting for spectators.

Pretty sure tickets for the Open (that's right, I said it.  If you're confused about which tournament in currently referring to them I don't know what to tell you ;)) sell out completely EVERY YEAR.
