Chipping from tight lies is a area looking to improve on. Any suggestions? Club loft bounce and any techniques. Currently I chip with 60 degrees and love it. Around the tight lies not so much. I have high bounce a know that's part of problem.

This was my weakness. What helped was learning to hit down on the ball, that is, club hitting the ball first, always. If your shot style (with irons) is always a clean pick off the ground, there are more chances that the club grabs the grass or gets stuck in the ground. If you learn to pick divots with irons you can become confident of hitting down on the ball.

Another alternative is to choose a bump and run with an 8Iron or so if  you are close to the green.

I dont have a high bounce club, dint like the one i had, so dropped it.

I try to hit these shots with a shallow angle of attack. The club should be sliding along the turf as you make contact with the ball, not chopping down on it. Narrow stance, hands about even with ball, shaft at about 90* and as upright as I can get it.  I'm trying to use the bounce of the wedge on the turf, not the leading edge.

The Paul Azinger Golf channel academy short game lesson is where I learned this pitching technique.

Depending on the carry I need, I do either of the following. The pitch technique is easier IMO and more forgiving than a tradition chip.

I agree. Bounce is your friend. I had a pretty straight forward punch shot yesterday.  For short punch shots I like to use more of a pitch motion. An 8 iron has about 4 degrees of bounce. #NoGlide

In terms of difficult lies. I'd say a soggy fairway is the worst. I rather hit of concrete than soggy fairway. It's just tough to let the club glide when the ground has that much give to it.

We don't see a lot of really tight firm lies in the MidAtlantic area, but I do see them when I get to the Pinehurst area, and even firmer and tighter lies when I've been to Scotland.  If its truly firm and tight, putter is a good first choice whenever its a possibility.  It takes a little practice to learn the speed, but you eliminate most of the danger of a bad strike.  Second choice would be a low-lofted chip and run, and I think the putt/chip technique is a good one for that.  I'd only hit it higher if I really need to, and again the pitching technique that uses bounce to glide the clubhead is a really good one to avoid digging the leading edge in behind the ball.

I do too! I do that with up to a 3 hybrid. It does launch them pretty high though, so I have to be careful.

Yup, for some reason I almost always chip better from firm/tight lies than I do soggy ground.

Depends on the what I need to do, but most of the time,  on a really tight lie, I will use my 7W. I just grip down a little, and use my normal (Paul Runyon) chipping stroke. My 7W, or even my 5W works quite well in wet/muddy, thin lie conditions. This is one of those shots I devote some of my  practice time to. I don't see much mud out here, but thin lies, near the greens are not that uncommon.

No, it's not. Your technique is.

@boogielicious posted the quickie pitching video, check that out. It's a game changer. But then again, so is @boogielicious.... :-D
