On Amazon some sets come with solvent and tape. Is this a concession to people who don't want to use an air compressor?

Be careful when you buy from Amazon. Some sets the shipping date is 1 month from the order date.

I would think so, yes.  The solvent/tape provides extra peace of mind for some against the possibility of slippage.

On a somewhat unrelated note, my grips are now about 9 months, and 22-24 rounds (along with several practice sessions) old and are showing no signs of wear. :)

Yeah I'm at about 10 months with my PURE DTX grips.

That's the one I bought. I tried them out on @billchao's 7 iron and they were very tacky.

I guess not everyone's comfortable with using an AC, it just seems like a no-brainer, I don't like keeping flammables in the house.

Mine are brand new; just built the clubs. At the rate that I play, they will be brand new a year from now.

To the topic, they grip the shaft like crazy. In fact, the DTX is a little harder to install than the Pros because it has a tendency to grab and fold over itself as you push it down the length of the shaft.

I have never installed grips using solvent and tape. As long as PURE continues to put out quality grips, I will continue to buy their products. I'm a full cord fan, but the more I use the DTX, the more I like it.

Yeah I'm surprised more OEM's haven't gone this route.

I have installed many different companies grips with just air, no tape or solvent and none of them have slipped. In fact the only grip that I've had move on the club was a Pure.

I don't think that you can blow on Winn or Superstroke grips though.

Read several posts that Winns were easier to "blow on" than Pure.

And my hands must be child-like - tried the DTX - holding them, they felt as if they'd tear up my hand. But on the course, they were ... fine. Grips - such a conundrum.

My PURE grips are going on 2.5 yrs and still feel amazingly tacky - DTX because I'm a manly man. They have moved just a little bit, a little twisting at the very butt end of the grip.

My Pro's have twisted at the butt end over time as well.  It doesn't seem to affect anything and they've never slipped noticeably during a swing.  Last summer I noticed they could get really slick if I was walking (sweating) and it was really humid out, but no trouble so far this year, including a trip to Orlando back in April.

Know a guy who installs using Gorilla Tape on the shaft and blows on the Pure, and says "they never move." Works for me because I take 2 wraps.

Tried a Pure Pro - like them, but in the humidity and heat of N TX, combined with my hands sweating like I'm in Confession, I've got to look elsewhere.

I use Gorilla Tape if they need to be a little thicker.

Well, as you know, you are using the best.  All this guy does all day long is fit and build clubs. He says, "Jerry, I only use the best, whether it's tape, glue, etc.. My reputation is on the line if a grip moves or a club head flies. It's not happening on my watch." Great guy and he tells it as he sees it.

Well, my entire house is flammable, so I guess I don't have much of a problem keeping flammables in it. I've never done grips without grip tape and solvent. I don't own an air compressor, so I'm unfamiliar with this new method. However, I have never had a grip slip, or twist, in the slightest after I installed them.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
