Not to me.  Everything both of them said, from their points of view, jives and is accurate.

I mean it's unusual for the coach to essentially acknowledge it's a bad judging decision instead of standing 100% behind the athlete. Sounds like he wants to maintain some semblance of a professional reputation.

Seems like Putin doesn't believe in the natural ability of his athletes. Given two poor decisions wen't Russia's way, the IOC should explore judge tampering.

Boxing seems to be as prone to this as ice skating. Remember the poor decisions in Seoul?

Gotcha.  I guess I'd agree that it falls in the category of unusual then (even though I think it shouldn't be).

Great to see Jenny Simpson earn a medal in the 1500 meters. She was the best middle-distance runner in the world a couple of years ago: back when it looked like American women were ascending to the top of the running world, and before the Africans suddenly started breaking Cold War-era world records. She and Shannon Rowbury were so close to overtaking Dibaba at the finish line.

Gymnastics is over, which means I don't have to spend any more time questioning whether Aly Raisman is hot.

Definitely bogey.

Last night, they spent time following a US 400 meter hurdler. She is only 17 and really cute and all, but she came in 5th in her heat. Meanwhile, the other two US women won their heats. As a guy that ran track in HS and college, I wanted to see the others. Plus every heat has really cute women, so it's not like we're going to miss out.

Sounds like there's a lot of controversy and corruption in the Olympic boxing.

People over here have become very disillusioned with the Olympics after the state sponsored Doping and now the dodgy decisions in boxing. Mick was absolutely robbed here.

Olympic boxing has a long, long history of terrible decisions.

I didn't see the fight, but I saw the pictures of his opponent. Hard to believe that anyone that battered could get the result.

I can think of a certain boxer who controversially lost in 1996

The Mayweather fight, I presume.

Saw something where Teddy Atlas was accusing NBC of hiding boxing and it's lousy decisions from American viewers. I stopped taking Olympic boxing seriously a long time ago. It's a heck of a shame for the guys who work so hard in quest for the gold medal. Your guy Conlan could have turned pro a few years ago and been earning money.

I've been double/triple dipping some of the coverage. Watched the shiny, pre-packaged, we're gonna recoup our gazillion dollars we paid the IOC, prime time version, the streaming coverage and some of the BBC's coverage. The NBC announcing is just so clinical, polished, one sided/dimensional. It's Today Show/Datelined to death. HOW MUCH FRIGGING VOLLEYBALL DO YOU NEED TO SHOW? I understand the sex appeal, but man, talk about favoritism. I can just go watch Baywatch.

Jesus, I was getting so annoyed watching the gymnastics last night - and I'm rooting for the Americans.  But I couldn't help but notice that during each American routine, all he does (the color guy - Tim Daggett I think???) is point out how beautiful and technically difficult the routine is, and when anybody else is going he nitpicks the shit out of every single move.  "Oh, did you see that lean?  That's a tenth.  She was suppose to connect those, that's another tenth.  There's three tenths there."

I'm glad it's over now so I don't have to listen to him anymore.  I'm all for the announcers showing a bit of enthusiasm for the Americans and/or the favorites, but he was so over the top that it was beyond annoying.

Same in beach.  Kerri played like dogshit last night and the announcers kept making excuses for her, and saying how wonderful she was doing.  I mean, no need to rip her but let the viewers understand what is truly happening out there.   I'm sure Kerri is kicking herself today over her performance.

I'm no expert - but even for a layperson it was very easy to see that she was the weak link of that team.  That's why they served it to her darn near every single time.

No question.  It was tough to watch but those Brazilian girls were great, they earned it.  Clearly though, it would have been a different match had Kerri been on her game.  Even the best have off-nights, which is what is so remarkable about her Olympic record.  No subs on a 2-man team.

    • there will be lots of changes.  i mean, look at newey past, each team fell off a cliff when he moved on i think max is the magic bullet   if red bull loses him then whee are they going for drivers?   lots of young talent but he is a proven winner and i’m sure top engineers love to work with him
    • I too, like @GolfLug, remember great wedge, iron shots, or my missed putts, more than my made putts. My most memorable recently, would be: #17 Old Course St. Andrews (last year) I had been putting awful all day (I started 3 putt, 4 putt, 3 putt, 3 putt), but found a putting stroke on the back 9 and was 1 under on the back going into 16 and of course I 3-putted it for a bogey. Got to 17 and my playing partner just hit it into the hotel, so I went a little more left and decided to not try and hit it over the hotel.  And as soon as my ball was in the air, I heard one of the other caddies do the chicken noise.  LOL My shot was a little more left than I wanted, about 185 yards, I hit a 6-iron and it was drawing right at the flag.  The pin was just to the right of he bunker and towards the front of the green. My ball hit short (and just missed going into said bunker) and stopped about 15 feet left of the hole. Had a little left to right break and as soon as I hit it, I knew it was in.  Birdie on the road hole, looked at the caddie and said not bad for a Chicken.  Parred 18 (missed 10 foot birdie putt) for a 35 on the back 9 at the Old Course. #18 Springfield G&CC Last year while playing in our season long match play event, my partner and I get the 18th hole needing to win the match to move on into the knockout round.  We are tied going into 18.  A tie and we lose on overall points by .5.  Our teaching pro is on the other team (very good golfer), so we were pretty sure we needed a birdie to have a chance to win the match, I hit on of the best drives I hit all day and had about 135 yards to the pin, but it was in a place where you didn't really want to be long.  So I hit a PW and it landed just short of the flag but released about 12 feet past the hole, so have a devilish putt coming back down the hill.  Our competitors were away and the pro missed his birdie putt by inches, I thought it was in when he hit it.  So after reading the putt, which probably had a 2 cup left to right break, I made the putt to win the match.   #15 Springfield G&CC A few years back, was playing in the first round of the Club Championship (against the previous years runner-up) and my putter was balky all day.  Got to the 15 hole, 2nd Par 5 on back, and was 3-down with 4 to play.  We both hit good drives, both hit good second shots and we both hit decent 3rd shots.  I was about 15 feet and he was just a hair longer.  He missed his putt, I had another slider putt down the hill, with about a foot of right to left break and made the putt.  I birded the next hole, to go 1 down, but not a memorable putt as I only needed a bogey to beat him on that hole, he had all kinds of issues going on.  Lost on 17, as he birdied it, right after I missed mine to lose 2&1.

    • Ok so as of this point the bug persists. We figured out that I can select the tees (gold or blue) manually and it resets the back 9 scorecard to the Lake course, but as soon as I add #10 manually, it automatically sets the back 9 as Ridge and no amount of playing around with the tees changes it. And it still doesn't save #10 when I sign off. Andy from support said he will speak to the tech team about it, but it seems there isn't anything either of us can do at this point. I've accepted that #10 is simply lost. I now have 17 correct holes and that's going to have to be good enough.
