I agree with Caddyshack being a top golf film, but not Caddyshack 2

Haven't ever seen it, but there's one with Dean Martin & Jerry Lewis that Hogan & other pros may have appeared in (briefly). The fact that no one lists it probably means it was a stinker.

He's probably confused since actor Jim Caviezel (sp?) played Jesus and Bobby Jones in movies.

I think you meant The Greatest Game Ever Played. :-)

And yeah, I couldn't think of a good Jesus/sports joke. Something about overcoming adversity and bearing the cross of leading the masses, or maybe he played hockey for the Wheeling "Nailers" (oof!!), I dunno. I got nothin'. The Greatest Story Ever Told is a movie about Jesus. Charlton Heston and Max von Sydow, IIRC.

Β

There was a "B" movieΒ years ago called Banning. Robert Wagner played a golf pro. ThereΒ wasn't much actual golf. It was more of a soap opera, but I guess it counts as a golf movie. Also, I feel sure there will be a movie about Arnold sometime soon.

Off topic, but I noticed Caddyshack is on US Netflix if anyone's hankering to watch it.

Off the top of my head…

  1. Greatest Game Ever Played
  2. Tin Cup
  3. Caddyshack
  4. Caddyshack 2
  5. Happy Gilmore
  6. Follow the Sun
  7. Seven Days in Utopia
  8. Legend of Bagger Vance
  9. Dead Solid Perfect
  10. Bobby Jones: Stroke of Genius
  11. A Gentleman's Game
  12. The Squeeze
  13. Golf in the Kingdom

I think there are a few others. There was a comedy like "Who's Your Caddy?" or something too.

I knew your were going to list Dead Solid Perfect . .which I'm pretty sure is the only golf movie I have never seen. Β It's never on TV, it's not on DVD....I could probably order a used copy on VHS from somewhere but I wouldn't have any way to play it. Β That movie is like the Bigfoot of golf movies. Β

Β

Aside - I recently saw the Seve movie on Netflix . . that's a movie that did not do it's subject matter justice, imo.Β

It was called "The Caddy", released in 1953. Β I don't remember ever watching it.

The Caddy is actually pretty good, imo - but it's more like a regular Dean Martin/Jerry Lewis movie with golf in the background vs a golf movie.Β  It's got a few minutes of footage of Hogan and Snead and a few others.Β

JerryΒ Lewis is an excellent golfer - his father having been a pro.Β  He's apparently good enough to beat the likes of Hogan and Snead - but he is too shy to play in front of peopleΒ so he opens a golf academy.Β  Before he even opens for business, heΒ meets hisΒ girlfriend's brother, Dean Martin, who . .as itΒ turns out, is also good enough to take on Hogan and Snead and is not shy . .so it's decided that they will team up and do just that.Β Β So they enter one local tournament, win it and thenΒ take onΒ Hogan and Snead.Β  I don't want to give away the ending - butΒ aboutΒ 3 shots are hit in tournament beforeΒ Dean Martin's family bumΒ rushes it, Clampett-Style. Hilarity ensues and then Dean and Jerry decide they're better as entertainers vs golfers.Β

Weird you are right. I Googled a bit and see that Dead Solid Perfect movie available from weird 3rd parties as VHS or this one guy selling DVD's for $10.

I never thought there were many golf movies, until having Roku. Β And I'll admit, I've watched them all now haha

When you say Roku which service do you mean? I just checked Netflix for "golf movies" and found 6.

I use old Taylor Made clubs from eBay and golf shops.

Good catch! I read that and wondered the same thing. How on earth is that a sports story? I suppose it could be so, but only as a parody.

One of these days you guys are going to be old, and then you'll find out your brain doesn't always cooperate with your thoughts. It sucks. (I even read before hitting submit and my brain missed it.)

I'm never going to live this one down.

I do, indeed..thanks! Β

That was one I'd wanted to see for a while....not necessarily because I thought it would be good but just because it's a golf movie I hadn't seen. Β It was pretty good . .as far as golf movies go. Β It reminded me of 5 Hour Friends in that the main character is something of an "anti-hero"...but DSP had more and better golf scenes as well as a really cool 1980's theme song. Β 5 hour friends wasn't really a "golf movie", in my opinion . .just a so-so movie where the characters played golf. Β DSP is actually a golf movie..but still a pretty so-so movie. Β Β Β

I might give it a try one of these days. I was never a huge fan of Lewis' regularΒ 'spaz' character. But that still from the movie...I already knew it, but man Donna Reed was f-i-n-e.

Never had heard of the movie, but I know about Tangerine Dream. Quite a few well known themes.

The heyday of the synth and drum kit.

Haw! those are now called "senior moments" or "brain farts". I'm 64 and I have them all the time! For instance, why can I only recall one of The Eagles front men at a time, and not both of them at the same time! Right now I'm stuck on Don Henley!

All you can do is suck it up and keep on truckin'! Β
