I discovered something interesting by accident the other day. I accidently let my app set to GW when I was hitting drivers, and got some, um, interesting results:

Mevo GW.png

Then I switched it to driver and got this:

Mevo Driver.png

I was using it primarily to check my launch angle with my driver to make sure I am still hitting up on it. But those initial numbers were really strange, until I figured out that I had it set up incorrectly. I threw a few dots on balls with the GW to see if it got the spin rate to be more accurate. I didn't see much of a difference. Bottom line, it looks like the spin numbers are, at least in part, based on assumptions.

For what it's worth, I was hitting at a driving range outdoors.

Because of the sampling rate, I can see how giving the data a range of values might make sense. I think the Mevo also looks within a certain "window" for other bits of data, too. That's why @saevel25 doesn't always register shots on the SkyTrak, too. It too is looking within a "window" for certain conditions.

Yeah, that was my thought, too, when I figured out what was going on. I was sharing just to share. I've been pretty good about having the right club selected in the Mevo app, given that I just figured this out now.

This might be something I need to purchase.  I have been kicking the idea back and forth, but I think its time to just do it.  This will make windy days at the range up here in North Dakota much more worthwhile since I can get a "true" distance from the Mevo, even if the shot is into the wind.  I'm really surprised at how accurate the reviews are saying this little guy is for how cheap it is.

I just started using my Mevo and wondered if the myFlighscope upgrade (i.e. Bronze) will give me additional functionality related to Statistics? Currently myFlighscope Statistics is empty even though I have lots of Mevo data under my myFlightscope account (in the Data section).

It looks like you should get access to the statistics with simply a free account. I would contact support to see if there is a problem with your account.

My friend just brought me my Mevo from Japan, they imported it from US so the price was like 900 usd but heck I just want to have a new toy.

Test it a little bit today but the conditions were not perfect. I were hitting range balls on mats and hitting it from the 2nd floor down. And I’m not so sure placing the Mevo on the back of the mat was enough for 4 feet. Will set it up more carefully next time.

Quick thoughts.

Connection was good, no complain here.

Irons were good too I think, my 7i went from 146 yards to 160 yards depending on how Well I hit it.

The driver was much more inconsistent. My best drive was 101 mph head speed, 2842 rpm, smash factor 1.39 only carry 220 yards? I thought it should be at least 230,235 yards?

Will try it more carefully next time.

I just received my Mevo and have a couple questions. I haven't read all 17 pages of this thread yet, so I apologize if these have been answered.

I will mostly be using this outdoors into a net.  Do I set it as indoors or outdoors? I got the impression that the outdoor setting is more for the driving range than into a net.

If I set the distance from ball to Mevo at 6 feet and leave it there, what effect does it have if I move the Mevo up or back a foot for wedges vs driver? Do I really need to change this setting each time I change this distance?

My son and I will both be using this.  Is there a convenient way to track our data separately without having to log in/out of separate accounts each time we switch who is hitting?

I assume I am best off to use the same ball that I use on the course instead of the hodge podge of balls in my shag bag, many of which are cheap distance balls.  I am trying to use a little higher quality ball.

And then I just have to figure out how to make up some of the 10 mph club head speed and 30 yard carry distance advantage that my son has on me.

Indoors = net.

Try to keep the same distance, and try to have that distance be as far back as possible.

Just use different phones with a different account on them.

Sure. Just get a few scuffed ones and use those for your hitting practice. Put dots on them. (The metallic ones.)

I’m getting readings easily without using the metal dots but sometime the Mevo will have a parameter blank. Would that be due to not having the dots or is that just a mishap that can occur regardless? It’s only happened a few times.

That just happens sometimes.

Do you know that they’re accurate for spin?

I figured that was the main importance of the metal dots. I got readings on spin without using the dots so I guess I should disregard those.

They might be slightly inaccurate readings.

One thing I realize is that range balls and normal balls would get you different results.

I was hitting range balls only to get about 220 yards average and was a little bit frustrated cause I knew I was hitting them quite solidly and the I said what the heck.

Took my two balls from the bag and hit them then poof, carried 240 yards each.

That's why nobody uses range balls on the course, they perform substantially worse than a normal golf ball would.

I'm back in the game after an unwilling 8 year layoff and I bought some used equipment to begin rediscovering my swing with. My question here for forum users is, has anyone used a Flightscope Mevo to dial in their adjustable driver, and if so, with what level of success?

    • I mean, a golfer is trespassing and damaging property. So, golf rules don’t supersede state laws. 😉 Like, if it isn’t marked and is off golf property. The right thing to do is take an unplayable lie or take stroke and distance.  Also, this is a liability for the course. The homeowner could easily say the course is liable for damage done because they knowingly didn't mark their boundaries which allowed golfers to trespass and damage property.
    • Interestingly enough, if the course (the Committee in Rules terms) doesn't mark the boundaries, there is nothing out of bounds.  I realize that neighboring homeowners would take a dim view of golfers whacking balls from their backyards, but that's what the Definition of Out of Bounds requires. "All areas outside the boundary edge of the course as defined by the Committee."
    • I had two events the past two days. Yesterday I was playing a course blind. Hit it solid. Hit 9/14 fairways, 12/18 greens, 34 putts. Many of those putts were the result of balls that were close-ish to the hole when they landed, but wound up a long way away once they'd finished rolling (backwards mainly). Then today, hit 11/13 fairways, 11/18 greens, 37 putts, and shot 80. 8 over par and it wasn't particularly pretty. My big problem today was my pitching. I was inside 100 yards of the hole and off the green on 9 occasions.  1st - drive to about 75 yards, fanned a 58 degree short and right. On the green, but a good 40 feet away and good two putt from there (so took 3) 2nd - laid up to a bunker and it's narrow past it, so had 165 in, missed it right with an 8 iron. Wet rough, chip from about 5 yards off the green and the club snagged. It got on the green, but only temporarily. Overcorrected a bit on the next one and hit it a bit firm and it rolled out to about 35 feet. Putt didn't break and it ran on a bit and I missed the one back (greens were fast and a little bumpy, which didn't help, but doesn't excuse either). (took 5 to get down from close to the green) 4th - had about 95 from the right rough, hit it on the green and two putts (3) 5th - 90 from the fairway, tugged it and it got a firm bounce, chipped on and hit what I thought was a decent chip, but it ran out down the hill and two putts from 20 feet (4) 7th - 65 from the fairway, significant upslope and hit it a bit hard, ran long left against the collar. Tried to blade a PW, but it got under a bit so didn't advance it anything like far enough. Made a good two putt from there (4) 11th - 63 from the fairway, hit a squirrelly pitch on the green and two putts (3) 12th - 75 from the semi-rough, caught it a bit clean and it wound up on the back edge. Putting down a tier and it ran 8 feet past (that was actually a really good putt and couldn't have done any better I don't think) and missed that (4) 13th - 55 from the fairway, overcorrected and hit the big ball before the small ball. Then made a stellar up and down from 25 yards short to an elevated green with a putter (3) 15th - down in three from a greenside bunker (3) That was it. The other 9 holes I hit it on the green from outside 100 yards. So on those 9 occasions, I took 32 shots to get in the hole. 3.56 average. Terrible. Reason I'm posting this in here is to see if anyone has any suggestions for how to work on my contact with pitch shots. I don't have access to a grass range. Only mats and it's easy off a mat. Partly I think my problem is I've hit it off mats so much this winter that I've lost my judgement on where the ball is versus the ground because of the leeway granted. Open to ideas. I also suspect that under pressure I stand a bit closer to it and then get steep and hit down on it and it puts me in a bad place, but I can't seem to get myself to not do that.
