Gilberg, especially vintage Gilberg, had a certain depth and creative panache that's completely missing here.

The great ones make it look easy... ;-)

I think it would be really cool to have your own "Random Musings" thread.

As it is, I'm the right age to have actually watched Family Matters voluntarily (hard to believe now). It seems appropriate for a Urkel.

So, I just traded in some clubs. They gave 3 options for what dollar amount they would give back. Average, below average and not playable. 7 of my 10 got average, 2 below average and 1 not playable. One had a big rust spot in the middle, and the other 2 had lack of good grooves. Considering I'm only trying to get full value on trade in clubs, and may want to get some beat up clubs and restore them, can most semi decent clubs be drastically improved without taking it to a restoration place? With a groove repair, vinegar, coke, etc?

Or Mr. Topes.  What am I missing here?  Literally ever price of Global Golf is 30-80 percent less than these stores on Ebay. Mr. Topes has a titleist AP2 wedge for like 130 dollars that is like 30 dollars on global golf. Do people not shop around?

The GlobalGolf wedge appears to be a 708 series, I think, so it was made in 2008 -2009.  The grading shows that it shows significant wear from use.  I'd bet that the club in Ebay is a much newer model, potentially with a lot less wear.  People do shop around, and look at a lot more than the price tag.

Do you have data to back this up?  Bridgestone is very big in Japan in equipment sales and they sell a lot of golf balls world wide.   What about Snell?

Though not a bigger company, it seems like Tour Edge is growing, I read a post on their Facebook page that they are doubling production due to higher demand. They had 7 of their clubs in the 2017 Golf Digest Hot List. Their Exotics fairways and hybrids are awesome, in fact they are in a lot of Tour Player's bags, you just don't know it because they don't spend the money on advertising that the big four do, and they don't pay their pros, like the big 4 do.

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
