Hello all, so my problem is hitting the ball high and I can't seem to figure out why. I am somewhat content with the height of my 9,8, and 7 iron but starting with 6 through driver I'd love to see more height. I know a lot about the golf swing but this has been stumping me. I compress the ball well, I take long shallow divots and can hear the ball shooting off the face. I do not have a ton of shaft lean de-lofting the club face. I hit a lot of shots solid, I am not thinning it. Also, my driver swing speed is 117 mph. I know how to work the ball left, right, and even lower but I have always struggled with getting it up. I play with a lot of really good players, college players, and they are able to access pins with long irons that I can't because of their ability to hit it over the moon, and in dry South Texas that really matters on these greens! No matter what I do I can't seem to get it higher!

Thanks and Gig'em

@Dannyhansen88, @saevel25 is right in suggesting that you post videos in the My Swings area.  You could even just update the thread you started a year ago, in which @saevel25 gave you some pretty detailed advice.  I suggest that you open the "Hidden Contents" so you understand what you can do in order to get the best possible advice from the generous folks here.

Ignoring the rude comment you made to saevel25, have you gotten on a launch monitor to see what your angle of attack is? I also struggled getting much height on my driver until I was able to take some swings on a launch monitor and evaluate the numbers.

Also, without having your shots recorded on a launch monitor, it is very difficult to know for sure that you aren't delofting the club at impact, and the dynamic loft is most likely different from shot to shot, so it might be helpful to get a good idea of exactly what your dynamic loft is for each club in relation to the actual loft of the club.

Another point to consider is the ball position in your stance. I had the ball for my driver closer to the middle of my stance, but when I moved the ball way out towards my front heel/big toe area, I have been catching the ball just as my clubhead starts to move its way up. That has helped me the most.

Good question, I've been on flight scope and track man with my old coach about a year ago. I was pursuing golf at a high level looking to play D1 golf. We were just getting to working on the driver but I decided to quit because of x,y and z. Anyways I did not look at attack angles but I did see my launch angle is around 11 degrees with my driver. I swing a 9.0 Callawy GBB Aldila Rogue Extra Stiff, and yes I have the CHS for this I was fit for it. I understand I could crank it up to 10 degrees but that won't translate to my irons. On video the club is close to parallel at impact with slight shaft lean. I hit a pretty straight ball and can work it left and right. The driver takes off really really hard but doesn't rise like the pros do. Granted I am comparing myself to the pros but my goal is to hit a ball the screams off the club face and gets high later in flight versus hitting a ball that flies like a rainbow. I play the ball of my left instep. I'll go get on a monitor soon, what should I look for in attack angle? This is directly after impact with an 8 irons. Sometimes I think I'm not putting enough spin on the golf ball or I'm not really compressing it? I'm not sure.

Sure.  Get a LOT better.  A 3 hcp might be able to play D3 golf, but a D1 school won't let you drive the picker on the practice range.  As for getting on tour, the vast majority of D1 players won't sniff success on even the smaller developmental tours.

Beyond that, I've got my own churlish teenager to raise.  I'll let your parents work on helping you grow up, and simply wish them the best of luck.

You want +1 to +3 upward angle of attack with the driver. You want about -4.5 down angle of attack with the 8 iron.

If you are not sure then check your launch numbers on trackman, flightscope or GC2.

You want to see 12-13 launch angle and 2000-2300 spin rate with the driver. The 8 iron you can see around 7500-8000 rpm spin rate.

Note, I took these numbers from PGA tour players.

He has one. It's older. I'm not sure there's a FO video. Either way it's not up to date.

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.

    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
