It doesn't rain a lot in San Antonio, but I would still like to have rain available.  Any suggestions on affordable rain gear?

Thanks

I'm sure you'll get some recommendations, but I wouldn't recommend going a real low-priced route.  There's usually a reason why stuff is cheap.  For rain gear, you'll figure out that reason when you really NEED the rain gear to work, and by then its too late.

Sounds like this came from experience.    I can vouch for this.   Don't scrimp.   You'll appreciate quality rain gear when it is time to use it.

Yep! I have both a FJ jacket and pants in rainwear that I bought years ago. I don't use them very often so they've lasted a long time. But, they're heavy and hot!

They were made before GoreTex and other waterproof, breathable fabrics.

My advice? Get the absolute best you can afford! They will last you a long time, they will keep you comfortable, they will be light, and they won't impede your swing very much.

Resurrecting and old thread. Any recommendations for rain gear? Had a pair of Adidas rain pants that are literally falling apart at the seams and no longer keep water out.
What is the average price range? I do not want junk.
anything to look out for as far as warning signs of crap gear?

My buddy swears by his dad's "Mr. Gordon's Fisherman" (lol) yellow rainsuit.  It's not for golf, but he loves it.  Looks baggy so as to help with mobility and he stays bone dry.  Has a hood on it too.  Don't have to look at golf-specific rain gear.

I have a set of Nike waterproofs.  They do pretty well, but I'm intrigued by my friend's set.  I'll ask him about them and I'll post here.

It's like the overalls, jacket, and hood thing.

Like @DaveP043 said...you really should bite the bullet and just pony up for one nice set of rain gear. Nothing more aggravating than rain wear that doesn’t work. Just ask the Ryder Cup team...what year was that? lol. Gore-Tex, Patagonia, Archaeopteryx. There’s a new brand out that’s supposedly light weight, breathable and water proof. Sorry can’t remember name but a Google search should find it.

Was all set to buy footjoy rain pants. I did not care for the fit at all.
With the winter coming here on Long Island I do wear rain pants more to block the wind. However spring and summer I will play in rain and absolutely need water proof not water resistant.
Any brands that are recommended are welcome.

I have narrowed it down to these 2. Linksoul or Sun Mountain.

Any thoughts? I believe Linksoul is by John Ashworth. Loved his polos.

@iacas is this the same Linksoul who linked up with True?

Anyone have any knowledge of how the waterproofing is?

I have Mizuno and Galway Bay rain gear. Both work very well. The Galway bay gear is their lightweight summer shorts and top. I wear that down into the high 50s. The Mizuno gear is good too, but I will sweat a ton if it is over 65.

When serious golfers need protection from wind and rain, they go with Galway Bay Apparel. Our all-weather pants and jackets are the gear you'll want to wear!

Yes, these smaller almost boutique type places will do some collaborations from time to time. Linksoul makes some great shirts. Can't speak to their pants as they've never fit my calves/thighs very well, nor their rain gear (never tried it). It is John Ashworth though, yes.

Loved the fit of Ashworth for shirts. I think that I will give the rain gear a chance. Flying blind on the size. Ashworth size large in polo fit perfect.

The 32-36 range for a large in the rain pants concerns me a bit. But large most likely.

thanks for all the responses.

Went with the Linksoul rain jacket and pants.

The jacket(lt grey) is really awesome. I have been wearing it as my everyday jacket when wearing jeans.

The pants are great.  Not the typical baggy fit that most rain pants are. They have snaps to alter the length, no more dragging on the ground and shredding the bottoms.

Wore both yesterday to play. It blocks the wind perfectly. The pants also has a zipper fly which no other rain pants Usually have.

I cannot speak for the water proofing. It is a tad too cold here in Long Island to entertain playing in the rain.

whoa... a bit pricey for my blood... I've had Frogg Toggs in the past, and they work just fine for the limited rain play I subject myself to. And a bit smaller bite on the budget... much smaller.

    • Musgrove Mill hole #15 was converted to a par 3 after Hurricane Helene. Today, I had 145 from the tee which is a perfect 9-iron for me. I aimed just right of the hole and pulled it a few feet. Clanked off the stick down into the hole and ricocheted out of the hole 13’ away. Drained the putt for a birdie after repairing the hole which was damaged . Not sure if it would have counted as a HIO, but I was pretty excited!
    • Day 55 - 2024-11-24 Did five levels of Operation 36 on GSPro (different courses). 🙂 Was -4 from 200 yards (32) intentionally laying up on each hole (i.e. not hitting a 5I or something). Shot… 22, 24, 26 from 25, 50, and 100 yards. I forget my 150-yard score, but obviously it was < 36. Putting was odd… (and I did it with the wedge or a 7I or whatever was in my hand).
