Went to buy charcoal at the hardware store and it had the Egg. That is one well put together piece of machinery.

Little of a hijack. Which would you buy? I took the middle 'cause that's what the store recommended, I'm a newbie at this.

I was told I can use any brand as long as its the lump charcoal. I'm obviously using the big egg brand first as it came with it.

Grilled some ribeyes tonight. Best steaks ever grilled at my house! Grilled them at 600* and it makes all the difference in the world. I love how exact you can get the temp and leave it there. Much better than fighting my old charcoal grill.

Haha! Well, here was my first ribeye attempt. It turned out about medium well. Cooked at 600*.

I use those grills at public parks, lol. I don't grill enough to justify owning one. And its a good reason to get out of the house, sometimes. Works out fine for me most of the time. You just need one of those chimmney things to get the coals lit. Its very difficult to get good heat going in one of those square public grills.

You can't go wrong with Webber Genesis. They aren't cheap but I love mine. It's going on 7 years old and still works as good as the day I bought it. It's been outside in Wisconsin the whole time I've owned it and to this point has shown minimal wear. I use it all year long and quite often(since my wife doesn't like to cook).  Personally I don't like food on a charcoal grill. Burgers and sausage are fine but IMO it ruins any seafood or a steak.

I'll second this, Weber grill are very high quality and they back it up with a lifetime warranty that is second to none.   Mine is outside 365 days a year, and not a single part has rust on it, I do cover it maybe 50% of the time, but still.

Be sure you get the one you want, because you won't replace your Weber for 10-15 years at least.

Did I mention I'm a fan of the Weber brand? LOL

The chimneys are the only way to go. I have used one of those for years. I could imagine it would be pretty hard to maintain heat in one of those grills in the park. We love to grill out (we just haven't had a lot of time lately to do it), I was surprised at how much faster the process was compared to my other one. I am very pleased so far.

I use the Thermapen to get my meats to finish perfectly. It is almost instant read. Highly recommended.

I have a ThermoPop: http://www.thermoworks.com/ThermoPop

Works almost as well (3-4 seconds instead of 2-3 seconds) for 1/3rd the price.

I've read excellent reviews on these and would have gotten one for myself if I didn't already have a thermometer for work.

What I use is an Atkins AquaTuff, which is a little pricey just for personal use, but I do find I like having multiple probes. I can clip the air probe on my grate for a true temperature reading on the cooking area instead of relying on the lid thermometer (which doesn't give me an accurate read anyway) and have the meat probe in my meat at the same time. This allows me to check both temps without having to open the lid.
