McIlroy's "space suit" really an advantage?

I know that Rory has reportedly hit a drive 300 yards with this thing, but it is a perfect example of how things rapidly go south when, for example,  a player and a trusted caddie part ways. I can see that there are advantages regarding blood flow and temperature regulation with this outfit, but I would seriously doubt you'll see it catch on. In fact, I would be VERY surprised if you saw him wear it in the PGA this week. Probably in practice, but that's it. These gimmicks are great for the elite players, but the cost for amateurs is prohibitive, surely. Another reason why we amateurs aren't on a level playing field. Ban this suit now. Otherwise it's going to be the long putter thing all over again.

McIlroy and Sergio Garcia were taking part in a sponsor event for Omega on Monday of PGA Championship week, and both threw on the suits and posed for pictures. We also got to see a video McIlroy posted on Instagram.

It's a promotional thing. And maybe you're being sarcastic, and I'm risking taking it too literally (I'm leaning that way, really), but… it's not obvious.

Big whoop. Alan Shepard hit a six iron for miles in a space suit with only his right hand. These "suits" aren't even real ;-)

I think Rory's has some features which allow him to carry spare balls and tees, but other than that, it's probably real. Ex NASA training, at the least. The Dome helmet affects the sound of the ball, which is obviously why he isn't fully kitted, but, I suppose Nike or Under Armor (or whoever will be marketing them) is working on that. And if that watch is an OMEGA, it had better not have a compass on it.

NOTE FOR THE UNWARY - Believe it or not, despite what you think MAY be true, I am joking. And I know that this will anger some of our more sensitive members.:-)

That would be the normal assumption… for almost everyone but you, the Super Grumpy.

For someone as intelligent as you are - someone whose comments on golf and life are almost always considered, informed and, dare I say, correct, humour is not your strong point, and never has been. And, no, I do not demand that you laugh at my jokes, but time and again you miss irony. Do you REALLY think I thought that McIroy was going to wear an *****ing space suit in a golf tournament? You may not like, or agree with me on everything, but seriously, give me some credit. If a disclaimer is required for every attempt at humour,  however feeble, it kind of defeats the purpose. :-)

The space suit is obviously some kind of cover up.

Probably protection from UV. Both A and B, and some others that haven't been detected yet!

I can't worry about space suits. I'm focused on earthly things, like getting my drives in the fairway for Friday's tournament.

I'm pretty damn funny in person. You? I can't say I've ever seen a joke you've made.

Grumpy.

Seriously, the next joke you make will be your… second one now.
