I am curious to know from those who run golf pro shops if they sell more hats with their golf course's logo on them or hats from brand names like Titleist, Callaway, etc. and what that ratio is.  And feedback is appreciated.

I don't run a pro shop, but for whatever it's worth, the only hat I'll buy, is that of a course. Whether my home club, or a course I've visited, they provide me a reminder of the good times I've had.

A manufacturers logo does no such thing for me.

We sell more course logo than brand name. I guess we stock few brand names though. Even titleist hats have our logo on them. But most people in the past have preferred our logo hats.

^^^ Ditto to what David said ^^^

I don't care for the corporate logos but unfortunately some club hats have a logo on the side of the hat. Maybe the club gets a better deal on their attire if it has someone's advertising in it....

My Stetson hat has no logo and I prefer that.  I do have a Wishon cap that was a gift and it is a pretty cool cap to wear because so few people know what Wishon is and I get the curious look when people try to figure it out.  If I bought a logo cap I would like one with no words on it.  I like the Mizuno logo cap.  But I wear a golf hat for better sun protection.

I prefer to purchase a golf ball with the course name/logo on it.  Those are more fun to collect and are a lot less money then buying a course logo cap.  I play a lot of different courses and to collect a cap from each would be to much money.

Yup! I can buy a manufacturers logo cap, and they are "caps" not "hats", anywhere. The last time I played Fowler's Mill outside Cleveland, I forgot my cap at home. It was cloudy for most of the front nine, but the clouds were really breaking up by the time we made the turn.

I hit the pro shop looking for a cap and found the usual suspects. Titleist, Taylor Made, Callaway, Ping, etc. I kept looking and found a new display of Fowler's Mill golf caps, made by Under Armour, and only a buck and a half more than the others!

Guess which cap I bought!

Huh?   Not in the midwest..

But then again, we drink "pop" not soda.

Well, I live in the Midwest (Ohio), and around here baseball style headwear is known as a "cap"! I've run into the "pop" conundrum when traveling to the East coast, "Yous wanna what?"

I've never once referred to my hats as "caps", FWIW. And that goes for everyone I know, both where I grew up (MA), and where I currently live (NY). I mean, I know what a cap is, and wouldn't think it odd if someone referred to it that way, but no one I know does.

All caps are hats, but not all hats are caps. Like scotch and whisk(e)y.

I tend to prefer brand name hats with the course logo on the side.

The (Columbia) hat I've worn all season doesn't have a course or a brand logo on it - revolutionary!

Where I play I never see people buying hats, shoes, shirts, or any kind of clothing/accessories at the pro shop, whether it be the course logo, club/ball maker logos, or both. I do see people buying golf balls. Sometimes I see people buy a sleeve of ProV1's and a couple of Coors Light Talls. I honestly think the merchandise in the pro shop is mostly window dressing. Usually it's on sale, from egregiously overpriced, marked down to just overpriced.

It's a baseball cap, but a golf hat.

I don't make the rules, I just report them!

My club is 50/50 on logo vs brand. I typically wear visors and they carry the standard white and black titleist visor then I asked them to order  3 color variants of the club logo on Imperial visors. Everyone wears those now.

I never buy hats (or much of anything else) at pro shops. It's all way too expensive.

The last time I found myself at the course with no hat, I just doubled up the sunscreen on my susceptible, bald head.

Probably there's a regional component to this question. We recently had some guys from Palm Springs come up and they were (to a man) wearing club logos. We're not known for golf tourism (aside from Bandon) or retirement communities here on the western side of the Cascade Mountain Range. Most guys wear brand name hats.

    • Day 25: 1/4/2025 Mirror day. I did some good mirror work with a 7 iron. Once again focus here is on pushing the carpet away with my lead leg. Sort of like I'm sitting in a office chair and want to scoot across the room.  Later, I used the putting mirror on the putting mat. Rolling 8 footers down a straight line on the mat.

    • What does this have to do with the topic?
    • The Top flite Gamer, designed by Callaway, was once an excellent budget ball and won many gold awards from Golf Digest. The original Gamer was a 3 piece ball with a urethane cover. The 2024 version is a 2 piece ball with a cheaper ionomer cover. The top ball below clearly shows the cheaper 2024 2 piece Gamer and the bottom is the 2021 3 piece Gamer.   DSG acquired the brand from Callaway and has systematically destroyed it.
