https://www.golfdigest.com/story/jason-day-gets-personal-when-explaining-why-he-had-to-drop-colin-swatton-as-his-caddie

To preserve the most important relationship in his golfing life, Jason Day had to cut loose the man who made that life possible.

“I never wanted it to turn into a toxic relationship where he’s taken me from where I am as a 12-year-old kid to where I am today, and I’m not talking to him anymore,” Day said Wednesday in explaining why he has replaced Colin Swatton, his swing coach and his only caddie since he turned professional, on his bag starting at this week’s BMW Championship. “I was worried if I kept it going, it was going to head that way, and I love him too much to have him not in my life because of how special he is to me.”

While Swatton will remain Day’s swing coach, his departure from his star pupil’s bag might be the most surprising in a year that hadn’t already seen Phil Mickelson and Rory McIlroy split with their longtime sidekicks.

Not that I don't agree that a change of scenery can be a good thing, but I mean, c'mon, these guys are hitting the shots, not the caddie.

Initially I was shocked because I thought Swatton was out as caddy and coach, he's like a father to Day. This will probably end up being a good move for Day, I don't think you ever want your caddy being "too close" to you.

While I have never been a caddy, I would think it is very close to a marriage. I mean these guys spend hours upon hours with each other. Sometimes you need a break, even when you love someone they can begin to bug the crap out of you when you spend too much time together. Better to do it now before it gets ugly.

And Day is now tied for 2nd. Hey, if it works...

Seems like the change was made for the right reason...and you can't argue with the early results.  Time will tell but the player needs to feel comfortable with whomever is on the bag.  Its the only person they can truly talk to and discuss things with out there.

2017 is not the year of the caddy, that's for sure.

Fairways and Greens.

I completely understand why Jason Day would do this. If you are worried about your caddy judging you on your bad shots, it can't be comfortable. And if you're the caddy and you start to get annoyed at your player because of his bad shots, that's not comfortable either.

Incidentally, this is why I could never caddy for my wife. It's also why my wife banned her father from coming to her golf tournaments in high school.

Now how do I break this news to my wife?

Begin by doing the wash once in a while, then graduate to the dishes...
