Day 99

Light chipping practice today. Short stuff from about 5' off the green. My chipping stroke is pretty much identical to my putting stroke.

Using various clubs, my focus was on distance, green reads, landing areas, and either making the shot, or leaving my ball in one putt range.

I treat chips the same as putts. Shorter ones I try to make, and the longer ones, just to get with in one putt range.

Day twelve: Spent around twenty minutes on the range trying to work on the same old feels of engaged core and quieter lower body. Some improvement with longer clubs and wedges, but contact with my irons just isn't right at the moment. Then had 40 minutes around the practice green working on all sorts of shots, primarily poor lies - bare, downhill, fluffy rough etc. Just trying to build up that experience of how to play them.

Currently focusing on: Key 4 - shorter backswing.

DAY 140    Spent 2 1/2 hours on the range working on my downswing sequence using drills from "Train For Golf Like an Olympian" by Gilchrist and Huffman (pages 175-178).   Then spent an hour on the putting green working on putts in the 10-15 foot range.  Easy day.  Rain all day tomorrow so I will be pulling out my KPlayer for lots of work, as well as my Impact Ball and short club.

Day 66 - April 9, 2018 - Five minutes (well, more than that) with the backswing and downswing work. Getting a little closer to full speed now. Maybe 85%. With a few 100% swings (normal speed, not necessarily 100% full effort).

April 9 Day 9

had a tough run w/o with 9 x 30 sec uphill sprints so I only had enough energy to putt across the living while watching the news with my wife, she tolerated me going back and forth across the screen. Worked on getting a straight and smooth roll, and on distance control to as far as the room will reach.

signed up for the Honolulu marathon so I’m running a little, trying to not let it get in the way of golf.

Day 13: A little bit of range work and narrowing the stance has made a huge difference to contact. Spent the rest of the time just working on the core engagement and shallowing on the downswing.

Currently focusing on: Key 4 - shorter backswing.

Day 100. I see my day 99 never posted up. Probably due to  poor service..

After dropping my Grand Daughter off at school, I stopped by the practice course for some putting.

Focus was on distance. I found a little tid bit on how far to take the club back for various distances.

What it amounts to is the correlation between how far I turn my head at address just before I start the stroke, and how far back I take the putter.

Example. I am standing over a 20' putt. Just before I start my stroke, I take one last look at my target. With a 20 footer, I have to turn my head farther than I would for a 12' footer, or for a 5' footer. The amount I turn my head, gives my brain a distance to take my club head back. The farther I turn my head, the farther my back stroke. A shorter head turn means a shorter back stroke. It's a coordination thing.

My jury is still out on this, but it does look promising. Keeps me interested in practicing my putting.

Day 375:

More A4 to A5 drills as well as some A5 to A6 drills. We're trying to get my impact position to a good place. But I'm only to shaft horizontal with the new drills.

Day 5 of 7:

I missed two days in a row so I gotta be consistent from here on out. Sunday I watched the masters and yesterday I was sick.

Today I did 10 minutes of mirror work. Working on my same elbow position in the downswing. Feel is right elbow chasing belly button.

April 10 Day 10

just after an easy 4 mile jog I went out back and worked on wedge play. Then I saw my canoe racks so I set them up about 20ft apart. Picture 2 small field goal posts and it required me to focus on getting the ball off the face squarely with the right amount of carry. Good fun, and I do get disappointed in my near green wedge play. Then I worked on swinging my 3 wood, and called it a day. Time for dinner.

Day 101

Got in some leg and cardio work this morning. Just a brisk 2 mile walk uphill, and 2 miles back with a few elevation changes along the return route. Took me me an hour, and 20 minutes to complete the 4 miles. Had a few photography stops along the way.
