He is close in my opinion. He is playing better than ever and I would think he has to be one of the favorites in 2 weeks. I think another green jacket makes him a lock or a couple more tour wins.

I'm not biggest fan of his personality but he is a fun golfer to watch.

He has precisely two more majors to his name than a current Hall of Fame member, Colin Montgomerie.

And I have high hopes for Bubba this April!

In age of (relative) parity on tour where it’s really hard to rack up a bunch of wins, Bubba’s record of 13 wins/ 2 majors is probably sufficient for the HoF. It used to be more of a 20/2 bar but that seems to be dropping off quite a bit in recent years.

I’ll say no right now. 2 of his 13 wins are small field charity events (one of which is Tigers). His two green jackets absolutely make him a fringe case for sure. I think he needs either another green jacket (or other major) or 3-4 more quality wins in his belt to solidify his case.

I thought he only had 11 PGA Tour wins with 2 majors?

I was on the fence but if Monty is in Bubba should be.

He has 13 worldwide wins which are taken into consideration for HoF status. You are correct though that the 11 wins of significance are all pga tour  wins.

Man I don’t know about that. I understand your taking into consideration the lack of majors for Colin, but the guy is 4th all time in European tour wins and won the Order of merit 8 times and was voted euro player of the year 4 times. I get bubba has two green jackets but I still don’t think his entire body of work is comparable to Colin.

11/2 and no, he shouldn’t be yet.

Yea I would say Monty is not a great comp to Bubba since Monty had a boat load of euro tour wins and no majors. Their resumes look a lot different. A more appropriate comp might be someone like Freddie who got in with 15/1 (I think I have those #s right). If 11/2 is bubba’s record (I didn’t discount discount the silly season wins previously) then yea, I would agree with others that he probably needs a few more wins and/or one more major to be a lock. Freddie arguably/partially got in based on popularity. I think it’s safe to say that won’t happen for Bubba.

I think he is very very close, but not there quite yet.  Another major would do it for me absolutely.  Or another win in a premium event (another WGC or a Players).

Interesting (small) group of guys who have both multiple majors and multiple WGCs.  Tiger, Phil, Ernie, Rory, and now Bubba.  Sounds like group of Hall of Famers to me.

So maybe I am off of No, and on the fence.  But IAC I will be very very surprised if he doesn't accomplish enough to make his eventual election a complete no brainer.

But then again, what the hell do I know?

I didnt think Majors were the criterion any more? Its all about the depth of field and "domination" these days.

That type of comment shows how little you understand the other discussion.

I refuse to use Freddie as the bar. Freddie shouldn’t be in at all. Monty, probably not either.

other than wins (PGA, WGC, and other) and majors.  What is the other criteria?  (Ryder and President Cup captaincy and participation?, college and amatuer record?  Champions Tour success? (not Bubba yet), charity and works?)

I dont think he's quite ready yet but not far off. I reckon another Masters or a win at The Open might nudge him in.

Think Monty deserves a place if only for trying damn hard to win a major. I mean he was the best European golfer for quite a while so that must count for something?. Sure, he won no majors but neither did Dwight D Eisenhower and he's in the HOF (albeit as a lifetime achievement for contributions to golf) :-P.

Maybe have a "They tried really hard" catagory for guys/gals like Monty ;-)

Bubba Watson is definitely in the Hall of Fame.......lefty, self taught, two majors, 11 PGA tour victories, shapes his shots around the course......has many unique golf qualities besides only wins....and from here on it, he will be more fan friendly, more game friendly, and become an ambassador of the Sport, a few things he was not earlier in his career..........

If he wins another major he's on the other side of the fence.  I'd still like to see around 15 wins as well.  Personally, I think he will get there.

Fairways and Greens.

If Bubba does get in i hope they change the guys who does the little "brass bust" pictures of the players for the website. Nick Faldo looks like he's been in an argument with a 9 iron and lost!!
