Faldo's Masters commentary is awful (as usual)

I can't stand Nick Faldo, and have a hard time believing there's any greater fan of Nick Faldo, than Nick Faldo. I remember his first year as a full time commentator.  Someone must have said something to him or he watched himself and realized what an ass he sounded like. He hard a very difficult time talking about anything other than himself and would go off on rambling stories, the point of which was always to remind the viewer how great he was and how many majors he had won. Every shot reminded him of the time when He... ad nauseam. Even now, while he's cooled it a bit with the self referencing, it's obvious who he wants to win tournaments and who he disfavors. In today's third round of the Masters, he would continuously stop just short of being outrightly negative towards Patrick Reed, while practically kissing Rory McIlroy's ass. Of course, He's never been a fan a Tiger's, and I tend to think he's a petty, jealous, jerk. I wish to God, CBS would let him go and replace him with anyone, really.  I'd love to see someone like, Brandel Chamblee (sp?). I think he's incredibly articulate, has great insights and is appreciative and respectful of the talent that plays the game without obvious prejudice.

Anyone agree or disagree?

I don’t entirely disagree about Faldo although I don’t maintain a level of disdain for him like you.  That said, I think Chamblee is a tool

I think his commentary is tolerable. He’s kinda funny here and there. I do think he holds a bit of distaste for American golfers from when he rode his bike to the British Open to essentially take on Greg Norman who arrived in his private jet and entourage. Faldo won. All his Masters wins were won because of flukes by the leader....meh.

Odd first post. I think you're imagining most of it. I disagree.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

Disagreeing with your views on Faldo's commentary as well.  In conversation about the potential for Reed to be caught tomorrow, he was doing all he could to not make a self reference to the fact that he came from 6 back to win against Norman.

I think Faldo is pretty good at his job. He makes decently funny comments mixed with some good insight and he doesn’t seem to take himself too seriously anymore.

Yeah, also disagree on this. He's not bad at all and comfortably better than the alternatives on Sky/BBC of Peter Alliss or Butch Harmon, who is unbelievably bad.

Currently focusing on: Key 4 - shorter backswing.

I like faldo   - only thing I struggle with is his British accent seems a bit exaggerated - I have to really concentrate to understand him sometimes.

I like Nick.

But I like Johnny too, and think both of them have a reputation with many that an honest listening of their commentary would show to be excessive in the negative direction.

That's an interesting point. I don't think it's Faldo's accent, which, like the man himself, is solidly middle-class Home Counties of England. I think as a commentator he's borrowed quite a lot from Peter Alliss. Alliss speaks with a plum - he was privately educated - and gets away with the bumbling, affected Englishness better, as a result.

Sorry Faldo is great. He is very funny while being informative. There is a poster on every forum that hates a specific announcer. I even heard today someone say they hate Nantz. LOL

I find Faldo fine. They're all generally fine.

I have no problem with Faldo, either.

The one who really plays favorites, IMO, is Nantz.

The thing about the doors in Reed's house changed my mind. Get him out of here.
