Spieth in Danger of Tour Violation

I think every player should have to play every event at least once every 5 years.  Obviously with some exceptions such as the alternate field events or if you play a regular tournament on the euro tour like the scottish open before the open, but otherwise, they need to do something to strengthen the field in these otherwise pretty “meh” events

What kind of fine is going to monetarily effect Spieth in some significant fashion lol.  He should be forced to donate a specified amount to a PGA Tour assosciated or supprorted charity also rather than a fine.

Sure, but there's a fine that will make so it's not worth it to any other player violating this rule. I'm not sure $20,000 is that number - it might be more like $50,000 or more. Basically, you make it most costly to not show up that event than miss the cut at that event.

I don’t agree with that at all because the last thing I want is the game’s top players being forced to alter their schedule around majors just to play in some of that they don’t want to play in.

So you don’t think theres a lot of tournaments that a lot of people don’t care about because of strength of field?

So what if there are?

I don’t like the idea of forcing top players to change their schedule and disrupt their major preparation just to play in some weird tournament every now and then.

Your opinion is that ‘something should be done’ and that’s fine. It’s your proposed idea that I don’t care for.  This has nothing to do with entitlement.

Well its not that far off from what the tour tried to accomplish with the rule Jordan just violated is it not?

None that he'd be willing to accept.

I think the suspension would have more of an impact but I don't think the Tour is going to risk the negative sideeffects.

I wasn’t.  Just want to see stronger fields at some of the more “meh” events every year, quite surprised certain people here don’t care about seeing stronger fields

I care more about better players being able to prepare the way they want for the biggest events.

I get what you’re saying..I do. I just think you’re underestimating the planning and preparation the top guys have to deal with for majors and more prominent tournaments. I’m not saying it’s  physically a disaster, maybe for some, but if a player wants to take a week of or two to plan for a prominent tourney/major he should freely be able to as long as he meets the requirement.

At the bottom of the "One New Event Played Per Season Requirement" it says, "NOTE: Regular Members (as defined in Article IX, Section A.1.f. through h.) shall be exempt from the provisions of this Regulation in the current season."

It looks to me like that is something they put in for 2016, when the rule was first introduced, to give the players time to adjust their future schedules.  They probably meant to take it out by now, but it's still there, so Jordan has an out.

In the same pdf under penalties, it doesn't say how suspensions are implemented.  If they just suspend somebody for the first three events of the season, like they do in football, it would be meaningless for Spieth, because he doesn't play the Safeway Open anyway.  Anybody know how that works?
