  1. The new WHS has a soft and hard cap to prevent your handicap from increasing too much. If it goes up more then 3 off you 12 month low the amount over 3 is cut in half. The hard cap prevents you index from going up more then 5 in a 12 month period. In my ten plus years as my club's handicap chairman we have had only two people received a reduced handicap due to tournament scores.
  2. That's a true pro to call that on himself. I hope the golf Gods take care of him.
  3. Kim said she went to the rules official first because she wanted to make sure that it was still a rule (ie. wasn't removed in the new rules). I supposed she could have blurted out "I don't think you can do that" and let it go on from there but she choose to notify an official. From there it appears the committee dropped the ball. That should have been a quick thing and they could have notified the players. Since it appears they let it go until the round was over and then still took another hour to decide is on them. Not sure who or how many people the LPGA had at this event. Their normal tour rules officials could have been at the regular event in Asia the last two weeks.
  4. Just went through Christina's Twitter. I first contacted an official to look into the rule to ensure it was still in effect immediately after we finished the hole. I didn’t wait till after everything was done and dusted to first bring it up to an official. https://twitter.com/TheChristinaKim
  5. In match play yes, but in stroke play that happens all the time if they get additional information or information that was not available at the time. Countless players have been penalized after completing their rounds. One story said Kim said something to a rules official during the round and that they were checking on it, but in other story it said Kim waited so as not to distract the players during the round, and even questioned whether she should say something.
  6. The incident took place on the 17th hole during Round 6 at Pinehurst No. 9. As Dye tells it, Christina Kim hit first on the par 3. Then Weber, runner-up at the 2016 NCAA Championship while a freshman at Miami, stepped up to the tee. As Weber prepared to hit, Dye motioned toward Weber’s caddie to ask if it was an 8-iron. Jacqueline Schram signaled back to confirm that it was, indeed, an 8-iron. Kim waited until the end of the round (10 holes later) to tell the pair that they had violated Rule 10-2. While players can, and do, look into other players’ bags to see what club is missing, they cannot ask a fellow player or caddie for information. The players said LPGA officials took more than hour to deliver their decision. Dye said she had no idea that signaling for a club was against the rules. “I’m gutted for the other player who was over her shot, ball in air and had no idea what was going on,” said Dye. “By no means was I trying to cheat.” Schram said she was also unaware of the rule. “I have just seen so many caddies and people do it,” said Schram. “It was just a subtle gesture that I didn’t think twice about.” Full story at link. Two players hit with penalties LPGA Q-Series for violating advice rule PINEHURST, N.C. – There’s never a good time for a two-stroke penalty. 36 In A Day

There is nothing better then 36 in a day on 2 different courses. I do it whenever my buddy and I go away because the wives don't get in the way, then a nice dinner follows. We did it locally this year for the first time walking on a flat facility. Next year we might try all 45 holes there.
  8. The greens at Pinehurst for the 2014 Opens were bent grass, and they did slow them down a foot for the women. I played it the Saturday after the women's open and there were no issues with the turf conditions, you could hardly tell where the crosswalks were. Two days after I played they ripped out the bent and grew in the Bermuda.
  9. Unless the one ball rule is in effect you can substitute to a different type of ball when taking relief under the rules. Local rule E-3 preferred lies, allows you to place the original ball or another ball so you could switch balls in that situation, so that would also be the case in a scramble.
  10. Rory's incorrect bunker penalty rescinded. Rory McIlroy goes to pick up stone in bunker, realizes it's a clump of sand and gets two-stroke penalty (UPDATE: McIlroy's two-stroke penalty reversed) - Golf Digest The Northern Irishman was given a brutal two-stroke penalty after...

  12. Sorry, there is no reason he should get his status back. I have no problem with club pros getting it back, I know some who have. If you played on the PGA tour, and had that kind of success where you will get residual payments, you shouldn't get it back.
  13. The Duval ruling is confusing, perhaps they are not giving the right information. At first I read he thought he was playing his 3rd ball (2nd provisional) but at the green realized it was his 2nd ball (1st provisional). Then I read that the ball wasn't his at all as it had a red 2 instead of a black 2. I haven't been watching so maybe I just missed a full explanation.
  14. Are people getting an email that they weren't selected? I never get an email saying I wasn't selected, I always have to log in to find out.
  15. They can create drop zones on the fairway side of the path to take your relief from the path.
  16. I'm partial to the 59th St Bridge song. I won a tournament with that song in my head, with the lyrics changed to: slow down you swing to fast. My swing was definitely feeling groovey that day.
  17. The other option is to play the Cradle and Thistle Du. Just back from a great weekend in my future home. The Cradle is $50 but it's an all day green fee. Played it twice in two hours and it's just a lot of fun. Thistle Du is an 18 hole putting course that is free. A great way to spend an afternoon. Drinks at the Deuce are not to be missed either. Good drinks, food and fun at The Pine Crest Inn at night. You want to try chipping into the fireplace, my wife did it on her first try and quit. The record is 25 in a row.
  18. Except for some maintenance roads there are no cart paths on the black. It is a walking only course for everyone. Daly could possibly be the first person who will play that course with a golf cart. Even if a group pays the outrageous fee to hold a shotgun start they can use carts to get to their starting hole but have to leave them there and walk the round with a caddie.
  19. It depends on what package you are on. Are you staying at the resort or elsewhere? Best thing to do is call the resort or whatever company you booked through and ask.
  20. Four of us walked 36 holes on Saturday, one carried, three push carts, and lived to talk about it. My current policy is I will not pay for a riding cart. If it's included I will use it unless it's CPO.
  21. Exactly! This is what most people who complain about price to play don't understand. A smart course operator would rather have 30,000 rounds at $40 then 40,000 rounds at $30. Same revenue but you should be able to provide a better experience with the higher price and fewer rounds.
  22. This is pretty much the pace of play policy used by my regional golf association. It used to be when you were on the clock the first player was given an additional 10 seconds to hit his shot (50 instead of 40 seconds). They have now gone to an aggregate time to hit all your shots on a hole as long as no shot takes more then 40 seconds. It's a little less forgiving now but the pace of play time is generally is about 4:40 for a three ball and you have to be behind your time and out of position to be put on the clock. 23. For comparison, the 18 hole Hyland Golf Course in Southern Pines, NC just sold for $1,975,000. Obviously a different part of the country but a full 18 holes with year round play.
  24. Not looking good early tomorrow or late Sunday right now.
  25. Not a big cell, but could still cause an hour delay which will could prevent them from finishing today.
