Fess up - how many rounds have you played in your career ??

Seeing as I have about 7 rounds and more than a dozen visits to the range in the short amount of time you've been able to golf here in boston allready this year Id prefer not to count.

Well I have 179 fully completed rounds since January 2007 that go towards my handicap but I would say the number of practice rounds (between 5 and 18 holes) would probably be another 250-300. That also includes about 6 months off from broken bones. So working that out I'd say I'd average at least 9 holes once every 3 days. Yeah I'm an addict :)

I'd say an average of once a week for the past 6 or 7 years?

maybe 200 rounds? since 98, but the last 2 yrs its been atleast once a week, played 5 holes this winter when the course still had snow on some of the holes. im a hoe. 

It would be hard to say.  I play so much that it might be easier to tell when I haven't played.  It would be in the thousands.  Example:  one time last summer all 20 scores from which my handicap was comprised came from the same month.   When the weather is right I can easily play 15 or 16 days in a row.

I'd guess that since I started playing 20 years ago (at age 10) I've probably logged in 1200+ rounds.  Of those, 150-200 were in competition at the high school and college levels.  I'm guessing that I got below the 5 handicap level around age 16, or after maybe 150 rounds.  During those early years, and especially while playing college golf, I made far more trips to the practice range/green than I did to the course itself.

170. First round was on May 23, 2009 and my latest was back in October. Haven't gotten out yet this year...

I'd be in this boat as well except I started when I was even younger. I remember as a kid my parents would drop me off at the course at 6:30 in the morning and, most nights, I was lucky to make it home by supper (we only lived a block or so from the course). I'd go weeks where I'd play 3+ 18 hole rounds every day. I should have spent more time on the range and practice green, what did I know though, I was just a kid.

After highschool I did just that. I hit thousands of balls and lived on a practice green. I played very few rounds at this point but still scored better at this point than any other in my life. I attribute that to the insane practice regimen that I stuck too.

Give me a break! I started playing 18-hole rounds back in 7th grade in year 1964. Really can't help you on total number. From high school onward, my handicap has ranged anywhere from a 12 to a 25, bouncing up and down from decade to decade.

 

As far as getting better goes, it depends on a mix of... || natural athletic ability || learning proper technique || practicing effectively || playing enough you develop a golf sense || and using equipment which doesn't hurt your game.

 

There's no magic formula that if you play X times a month and practice Q times a month you will get better. Everyone's different.

26 now, started playing when i was 12, took a five year hiatas, so thats probably 9 years of golf. I could say probably a good 170-200 rounds, if i add up a the 9-hole rounds together as well.

 

I read once that Larry Nelson didn't start playing golf until after he returned from a tour in Vietnam and broke 100 the first time playing. 9 months later he broke 70 for the first time. The learning curve varies from person to person and some people have an incredible knack for the game and then there is Larry Nelson. Point is it really doesn't matter how many rounds it takes to "get good", only that you enjoy the journey.

Career????  It's not a job, it's an avocation.  I'm retired from my career, so now my hobby is to play a lot of golf. 

 

As to how many rounds - you've got to be kidding.   I played my first round of golf when I was 17, in 1964.  That's 47 years ago.  If you can even give a wild guess after you've played that long, then you are a lot more anal than I am.

I started playing August of last year and have played 12 rounds so far. I have used golfshot gps on my iphone to keep score on all of them so I know exactly how many I have played.

 

I am going to try and get a membership soon and then plan on playing at least 2-3 times a week.

started playing at 12, played just about every day during the summers up through college, often two rounds a day, so up through college i'll say ~400 or so, since college i haven't played as much, so about half that. so ~600 or so rounds. geez, that's a lot.

I'd say about 50 in the 2 1/2 years I started playing
