I HATE it when life ruins my fun.

For instance, none of my friends want to go golfing with me this month because they all have the same important tests that I do next week and would rather be on facebook than study all week so they can't golf with me on the weekends.

Another, rather more annoying event occurred recently, today at 10:42 AM to precise.

I have been saving up for new set of irons for a while and this morning I got to my car at lunch and guess what I found?

I nice ing parking ticket! I guess I am waiting an extra week for my new clubs.

I hate it when real life ruins my fun!

Does anyone else have similar stories?

Hope its not just me.

There's an old saying.....

.....one definition of maturity is being able to delay gratification.

"Life" will continue to get in the way of your fun for a looooong time.  The fact that you allow it to is evidence that your head is screwed on straight and that you're able to prioritize.

Doesn't mean it doesn't tick you off sometimes though!

Let me see.....

1.  I have a job that requires a lot of travel and frequent overtime that is unpaid because I'm salaried

2.  My wife's family is huge and there are one or more family events EVERY weekend.

3.  My kids are active in extracurricular activities and require constant transportation to ballet, modern dance, kickboxing, soccer, etc.

The above have priority so it means that I have to be realistic about what I can achieve in this game and be creative as to how I fit golf into my schedule.  As of late, I am rarely able to finish 18 holes and often play only 9 or leave after 14 or 15 holes (or whenever I get a call from my kids).

My busy schedule is one of the reasons that I prefer golfing in bad weather...wind, rain, or cold.  Bad weather keeps the "light-weights" off the course so I can play more golf in whatever amount of time that I have.

Study Hard - make lots of money - play lots of golf...it is simple.

last year i played 68 rounds of golf, only 7 were on the weekend. i have wife and kids and family life takes priority. I am lucky enough to be able to play quite abit during work hours but that ability came after many years of working 60, 70 and 80 hour weeks.

I can relate to the last 2 posts. My fiance is 1 of 17, and we spend most of our free time with them. Lucky for me though one of her brothers is about an 8 and another one is high up like me so we play when we can. Although they have families that take up more time. I work a restaurant job and go to school so my hours are all off whack. I played a nice inexpensive 9 hole course Sunday that I'm going to try and squeeze in when I can. Sunday is my only day off and my fiance usually wants to spend time together. I think it's going to have to be church then golf on sundays to make the mrs. Happy lol. Gioguy we are planning to go to the courthouse and have the JP marry us. So much cheaper and we're going to use the money for a nice honeymoon and have a little bit of a savings.

Im very fortunate that my fiance realizes how important golf is to me and always has afforded me the freedom to play golf as much as I want.  I recently started working a 2nd shift job and that sometimes gets in the way of golf.  Right now, playing in any kind of golf league is pretty much impossible and it also makes it more difficult to play golf at all during the week because I have to be careful to wake up early so that I have time for a quick 9 holes before work.

For now though, I'm lucky if I play twice a month.  At least I have bowling league every week!

All the time, got ready for work yesterday, got in the car, started it, and I couldn't move the gear shifter!  Looks like there is a plastic hinge on the shift lever that has borken and won't allow me to put the car in gear, so I have to car pool with my wife and can't golf after work.

My wife and I had our second child in December, so that hurt my winter golf a tad. It took me until the end of April to get my game back into form. I make it a priority to get to the golf course and practice. I slip away during lunch, maybe an hour after work, any time I have a free five minutes I go putt. I have many family obligations, but I also have an obligation to myself to have some me time as well. I cut everything but family, work, and golf out of my life. I don't drink, hang out with my buddies, or even watch all that much TV. Golf is my workout time so when other people go to the gym or jog I am at the course. Thankfully I have many babysitters (grandparents) that love to have the kids on weekends so I can get away for 18 holes.

I recently graduated from college, so now I have the free time to play between work hours. But, while I was in school full time, it was impossible to play with all the work I had to do.  With the onset of graduate school in fall 2013, I'm thinking I'll need to play as much as possible now because once that hits, it'll be even harder to play regularly... although the school I'm interested in does have its own driving range to make things a little easier.

My oldest son just started tee ball.  I missed my traveling Saturday group at a nice course a couple weeks ago b/c his opening day festivities conflicted.  But then again, when I saw the excitement on a 5-yr old's face when he fielded a dribbler and threw it to 1st, I realized where I was supposed to be that day.

This. Between my 2year old daughter, my wife, and my 60+hour work week...its pretty hard to find time to get on the course.

Unless you play golf for a living, golf is recreational activity that ranks below family and career which seem to have a way of taking up most of the time you are awake and even some of while you sleep.  If you plan to have a career and a family that you're a loving part of get used to life getting in the way of golf.  I'd guess that's why most people take golf up seriously when their kids are grown and they are close to retirement.

I'm getting married very soon but I started in the same boat as you and I convinced her to have a destination wedding. The cost was around 1/4 of the original plan she had so it saved my ability to play golf. Outside of that she is pretty understanding about me playing plus she goes to lay by the pool quite a bit.
