Can you wear out a club?

I want to know if I have to worry about wearing out my driver.

I think I heard Jamie Sadlowski say that after x number of times, he has to replace his driver.

Is this a concern for the average golfer?? I'm asking because I'm hitting a Ping G15 (I think it is) and when I first got it I felt like I was hitting it a mile (it is used). But now, I'm not really hitting it that far. About 225 on average.

Could the club need to be replaced? Or is this just in my head. :)

LOL.  Actually, I think @David in FL misspoke.  What he meant to say was ... All drivers, and several putters I believe, have a very short shelf life.  If they are well cared for, though, they can last upwards of 18, maybe even 24, months before they start to "rot."

Here's the issue felt and fact. Did you actually hit more than 225 before or did it just feel that way? If you truly have lost distance, and don't know why, get a lesson or post your swing here. Or just buy the latest TM driver and instantly get 20 more yards...

I don't know about drivers but one of my irons and one of my wedges have gashes from buried rocks.

It is very possible it just felt that way. I do not know for certain how long I was hitting it. I hit it for months on the range before I even played with it. I just felt like I was hitting it on the range farther than I am now. My range is horrible though - No yard markers and the place you hit from moves every week so there is no way to know how far you're hitting anything unless someone on the range with you has a device that can measure distance to a pin and is polite enough to tell you.

I have no desire for new driver. I actually went to the golf store and had my swing analyzed while looking for a new driver.

In the end, the software was saying I hit every driver they had about the same distance I was hitting my old driver.

A few weeks after that I bought this Ping G10 (I looked last night) for $50.00.

I love the club. I was just concerned that it may be used up I've hit it so much on the range. :)

Naw, I think you are alright...

I really don't think you can wear out your driver necessarily. You can out-grow your driver, but that is a different story. Your playing style can change and your performance may require a different driver to use off the tee.

I tend to keep a driver that I like for a while and have had the face crack on two drivers over the last 22 years - The original Callaway Big Bertha (lasted me 7 seasons) and recently a Ping G5 (bought used and lasted 2 seasons, probably 8 years old).  I only have an 85-90 mph SS but practice with the driver much more than any other club since it can be my achille's heel.  During the season, it is not unusual for me to hit 150 - 200 practice drives/week.

I recently purchased a new G15 Driver for $129 including shipping and feel for your recent loss - it is a great club and has no moving parts!
