Who would the media prefer to take over Tiger's mantle?

Which one would would profit the media most?

In today's political environment, a gay golfer.

The ultimate candidate would be an illegal immigrant, single mother, lesbian with a degree from one of the boutique women's schools like Vassar or Wellesley.

Or Rory.  Speith is too Texan.

Another African American no doubt about it.

Any golfer who could win a lot, and more importantly have some what of a bizarre private life. Skeletons in a closet sells by today's media standards.

A pro could win  could win 20 majors, and unless he went through a divorce or two, was caught in a public embarrassment, he would not otherwise be that newsworthy by the majority of today's sports journalists.

There is no one like Tiger ...

Realistically, a more consistent Fowler, McIlroy, Day

and the recently always reliable Spieth.

And some bad boys like Patrick Reed and Bubba Watson.

It takes a village when you have no Tiger.

If you can throw in a consistently good, multi-cultural athlete with an engaging personality, that would be even better.

The media would benefit most from whoever is most controversial and constantly does things to grab media attention.  I'm sure they'd love a gay, transgendered African American who emigrated here illegally, has a bad attitude, criminal tendencies and a drinking/drug problem.  Maybe something like a cross between Madonna and Dennis Rodman in their primes.

Tiger was a prodigy and his relationship with the media started at a very early age.  No one on Tour now has even close to that background story, though Rory probably is the closest of all in terms of the whole background story about how young he was when he started swinging golf clubs.

Jordan is on his media honeymoon but unless he dominates I don't think he'll last because there's nothing to write about.  He'd not intimidating, he's not controversial, he's white and he seems to get along well with everyone, which seem to be the same problems Rory has.

If Reed could get his act together he could become a media favorite because he plays a good "heel".  He dares to wear Tigers colors on Sunday, was a bad boy in college and says dumb things on the course that makes headlines.  He seems to have something to prove and if he gets his game back he could be the "bad guy" who competes with Rory and Jordan.

DJ has some potential, he's got the sordid past, newsworthy wife, famous father in law and he hits the ball a ton which gives him an edge.  I get the impression he isn't well liked on the Tour and doesn't seem to mind as he's more focused on winning than making friends.

i guess i'm not really following you. in the media's case, imo, the tail wags the dog, so if a golfer doesn't continue to be a dominant sportsman, the media will go elsewhere.

Not if there are other aspects of that person which command media attention.  Woods is nowhere near dominant right now, yet the media follows virtually his every move.  He can be in dead last and missing the cut and the media will still cut away from the tournament leaders to show him shanking a 7-iron into a bunker.  The media covers whatever gets them the most viewership, readership or web clicks.

i dont think there is 1 person that could take over Tiger's mantle......

But there are several guys who can keep golf very interesting for a long time..... and who are in the running to win a major or any of the bigger tournaments anytime they play.....

i think these guys will keep it interesting in golf, not cuz they have a feud or anything.... but how the media will make it seem that way

I guess I didn't make myself entirely clear...I didn't mean Tiger per se as he has already established himself as a dominant figure. The OP was looking for someone other than Tiger to replace him. If there isn't a person, its no sweat off of the media's back...they'll find it in another sport if it materializes.
