Rory looked amazing on the range yesterday.  They were using the shot tracer on TGC, and first they showed Tiger hitting his fairway wood and driver.  They left the traces up so you could see the paths of several shots at once.  Tiger's shots were within a few yards of each other, and I thought that was pretty impressive.  Then they showed Rory, and he hit three or four shots where the traces looked like one shot.

It reminded me of the Robin Hood movies where he shoots a bullseye with his first shot, and then splits the first arrow with his second shot.

Live at the U.S. Open reports that the first birdie of the tournament has happened.  Piercy.

Now they're talking about Fleetwood and that they heard(?) his plan is to aim at the middle of every green.  Curious how accurate that report is.

That's Tiger's plan too. The greens are so small you'll only have 20 footers or so.

Need to hit the middle of the fairway first. So far it seems the 2nd and 10th holes are kicking these guys butt. Two tough holes.

I'm not sure I could stop a shot from 200 on the green on 12. That thing looks tiny.

Rahm looking ridiculous. Tee shot on 12 was amazing.

Someone forgot to inform Rahm and Piercy that this is supposed to be difficult.

Piercy was informed at 8.

No worries. The USGA will run the greens for tomorrow up to a 15 on the stimpmeter.

They only do that at Shinnecock.

Dont know much about this Van Rooyen, but it seems like he contends in majors. Remember him in the hunt at the British and the PGA.

This course plays pretty easy when there's a marine layer and no wind. In '92, they were tearing Pebble up until Sunday and the sun/wind came around. In '00, they scored lowest in round 1 when it was foggy. The next 3 rounds, only Tiger went low. In 2010, it was basically sunny every day so it played tough.

Want Pebble to play tough? Ask for sunshine.

    • Day 314 - Putting some things together. Better grip/setup, fuller backswing, better finishing position. Filmed some swings, happy with the progress.
    • Day 130: did a stack session.
    • Day 206 (24 Nov 24)  - An easy session with the 54deg wedge and hard foam balls / one simple goal - distance control thru backswing length while not decelerating.  Had a playing partner comment they noticed me decelerating on a couple short wedge shots in last round.  Hit from distances from close to 40yds down to 20.
    • Musgrove Mill hole #15 was converted to a par 3 after Hurricane Helene. Today, I had 145 from the tee which is a perfect 9-iron for me. I aimed just right of the hole and pulled it a few feet. Clanked off the stick down into the hole and ricocheted out of the hole 13’ away. Drained the putt for a birdie after repairing the hole which was damaged . Not sure if it would have counted as a HIO, but I was pretty excited!
    • Day 55 - 2024-11-24 Did five levels of Operation 36 on GSPro (different courses). 🙂 Was -4 from 200 yards (32) intentionally laying up on each hole (i.e. not hitting a 5I or something). Shot… 22, 24, 26 from 25, 50, and 100 yards. I forget my 150-yard score, but obviously it was < 36. Putting was odd… (and I did it with the wedge or a 7I or whatever was in my hand).
