Also, it is National Gin & Tonic day... think I'll go out and celebrate.

I've read that alcohol is a good disinfectant, as good as bleach, and less dangerous when taken internally (in moderation, of course).  I say Go For It!  🍸

That is why I went with cask strength wiskey. 55%, it's close enough to the recommended % for disinfectant 😉

I wonder if there is a book that goes more into detail how the vaccine was made, like a much longer form of this. I'm sure there will be one. Thank you scientists. Thank you Dr. Kariko, for never giving up.

Collaborating with devoted colleagues, Dr. Kariko laid the groundwork for the mRNA vaccines turning the tide of the pandemic.

I didn't know how many variants were of concern, according to the CDC site it looks like three variants:

Most of the people I know who contracted the actual virus over the last year had only minor symptoms. One of our people was deathly afraid of the virus over the last year and has been living like a hermit. She got the vaccine last week is now VERY sick.

These are just my observations. I am not telling anyone that they shouldn't get the vaccine, but I hope they understand the risks. There are risks with the tetanus shot too.

This is really disingenuous. 550k Americans have died from COVID. That's almost 2 out of every 1k Americans. 110 million Americans have gotten at least one dose of the vaccine. There have been ~1k subsequent deaths reported to the national vaccine response/monitoring system. Of those 0 have been shown to be caused by  the vaccine. So even if you lie and claim all those deaths were caused by the vaccine, you still have less than a 1 / 100k chance of dying from the vaccine. In reality you have a zero, or effectively zero, chance of dying from the vaccine. But we should definitely concern troll side effects.

Just curious, what is the odds of dying driving to work in your car? People do that without thinking twice. In fact, people do it while talking/texting on the phone with little concern.

What's your point? One person dying in a car crash doesn't cause an exponential growth in driving deaths.

I'm just saying that people take risks everyday that are more risky then getting a c19 vac, and they do it without thinking twice. The bottom line is the C19 vac is an extremely safe vaccination, exponentially less risk than driving a car.

No, not at all, I had my second Pfizer shot way back on February 10th. If there was a booster available, I would try to be the first in line. Here in Michigan there are three different variants roaming around.

  • One in five Americans are fully vaccinated and a third of the population has received at least one dose of a Covid-19 vaccine.
  • The U.S. is currently administering a seven-day average of 3 million vaccine doses per day.
  • The latest seven-day average of new coronavirus cases in the U.S. is 66,000, well below January's peak of about 250,000 new cases per day but more in line with numbers seen during the summer surge.

And in brighter news:

Some public-health experts have pushed back on the CDC director’s claim that “vaccinated people do not carry the virus” and “don’t get sick.”

Also, you know what causes blood clots at a much higher rate?

COVID-19.

Quote

“We began to notice a really unusual manifestation of venous and arterial thromboembolism in patients with COVID-19,” said Malas. “In addition to higher instances of blood clots, the mortality for patients hospitalized for COVID-19 and with thromboembolism was much higher, compared to patients without clots. It’s unusual because we have never seen anything like this with other respiratory infections.”

Overall, 20 percent of the COVID-19 patients were found to have blood clots in the veins, and among patients in the intensive care unit, that statistic increased to 31 percent.

While respiratory issues continue to be the most common symptom of a COVID-19 infection, new research indicates the disease could also be associated with an increased tendency of the blood to clot, leading to a...

John Gruber:

One death after 7 million J&J vaccinations for these blood clots (which they don’t even know are attributable to the vaccine), versus over 50,000 dead per 7 million cases of COVID in Americans. That’s a ratio of 1 : 50,000. You can fairly argue those mortality numbers are skewed by the fact that COVID has already ripped through our nursing homes, killing a lot of our most vulnerable people, but still, the risk numbers aren’t even in the same ballpark. And mortality numbers don’t include the millions of Americans who suffered or are suffering from severe cases that require hospitalization.

This is criminal innumeracy.

    • I did not realize that, I was thinking a more traditional golf club.
    • Thanks for the feedback. @StuM, we are a "club without real estate" so no facilities or pro. We have a membership of around 185 players and we only play together as a group at our tournaments, which are held at public access courses. A group of us setup the tournaments, collect the money and dole out the prizes.
    • In general, granting free relief anywhere on the course isn't recommended.  Similarly, when marking GUR, the VSGA and MAPGA generally don't mark areas that are well away from the intended playing lines, no matter how poor the conditions.  If you hit it far enough offline, you don't necessarily deserve free relief.  And you don't have to damage clubs, take unplayable relief, take the stroke, and drop the ball in a better spot.
    • If it's not broken don't fix it. If you want to add grooves to it just because of looks that's your choice of course. Grooves are cut into putter faces to reduce skid, the roll faced putter is designed to do the same thing. I'm no expert but it seems counter productive to add grooves to the roll face. Maybe you can have it sand-blasted or something to clean up the face. Take a look at Tigers putter, its beat to hell but he still uses it.
    • I get trying to limit relief to the fairway, but how many roots do you typically find in the fairway? Our local rule allows for relief from roots & rocks anywhere on the course (that is in play). My home course has quite a few 100 year old oaks that separate the fairways. Lift and move the ball no closer to the hole. None of us want to damage clubs.
