  1. 1. Do you have a problem or dislike Justin Thomas (or anyone else, really) cursing on TV while playing golf?

Thanks!  I'm always interested in people who come and go from forums.  I'm in a Mariner's baseball forum where guys just seem to die off... literally.

Is there a way that the poll could be edited or removed? When viewing the topic now, it looks like 75% of the forum is ok with the use of the "f word", and not the one that rhymes with duck. I don't like my answer to the poll if that word is included, the same way as other slurs.

Seems like it's a good reminder of how things change over time.  Can't go back and change history...

Marty Mcfly would disagree with you.

I don't have a problem with him or any other athlete swearing at all during the course of competition.  Everyone wants these guys to be passionate but HEY DON'T BE THAT PASSIONATE. Still, you can't use homophobic slurs. He apologized. None of us should be defined by our worst moments (or best, for that matter). But he should be smarter. And he knows that.

"Witty golf quote."

I voted yes to the poll, not because I am generally offended by cursing, but because golf and golfers hold themselves above the athletic fray.  Golfers are supposed to call penalties on themselves, be respectful of fellow competitors, etc.  Professional golfers, like tennis players, expect the crowd to quiet down when playing and in doing so their verbal utterances are more often picked-up by microphones.  In most other professional sports, football, basketball, baseball, soccer, hockey the crowd noise during play can be overwhelming and drown out the competitors’ utterances, excited or otherwise.

I know I’m getting old but it wasn’t that long ago when Tiger was being shamed for cursing and spitting.  It seemed like to viewing public was aghast at such on-course behavior and what about the children?  Now it seems every player is spitting and cursing and the line, such as it is, is slurs...and that may be a moving target depending on the slur. Personally, I think that golfers can find excited utterances, other than curse words and slurs, to demonstrate their emotions. If not, may be silence is golden.

I think some of the Tiger stuff was also just racism.

Matt Kuchar, as cheap as he is, uses "Golly Matt".  And that's about it.  He has his shortcomings, just not in the cursing department.  Or maybe he can't afford the more expensive curse words.

A quick google search net worth $25  million. He could afford a golly you f$&@ing idiot Matt. He won’t pay if his caddie says it.

It's entirely possible to be completely passionate about something without cursing like a school kid when things don't go your way.

Possible, but not probable. On occasion I have used God's name in vain on the golf course. When, if, I go to Heaven God has designed a golf course just for me. Millions of trees, tons of sand and golf holes that are 1.67 inches in diameter.

It’s also entirely possible to not let it mean a damn thing. If somebody tells me a garter snake is venomous, I won’t become ill if it bites me.

Yeah, but someone might kill that poor snake unnecessarily. Words have implications.

He swears like a sailor. Just not loudly.

    • Day 316 - More swings, full backswing and full finish.
    • Day 132: did some mirror work while watching TV. Worked on backswing stuff primarily.
    • 26 Nov 24 -  It was not a record breaking round by any means, but rather a simple walking of the back nine today playing TBWB (two ball-worse ball) where the challenge is to play the worse of the two shots played - could be an errant drive from the woods, a tree knocked ball that is 100 yds farther back down the fairway, a nGIR ball as opposed to a GIR….the goal today was to stay no worse than bogie thru nine.  Managed to achieve that goal - bogied 7 holes with one dbl and one par to counter the dbl.  It’s about staying focused and not letting a bad shot or lie derail, but rather be an opportunity.
    • Day 208 (26 Nov 24)- Opted to walk 9 today (was the back nine as they had a huge group going off the front) but instead of it being persimmons and blades, I had the regular gamers but made it a TBWB (two ball-worst ball) round.  This really challenges on several fronts - ball striking to be as consistent as possible, course management from non-optimal lies and keeping your head in it as it can be depressing to nail a shot on line-on target and the second rattles the trees right and it’s over 50 yards back and that’s the one you have to play.  The goal was to be no worse than bogie overall (+9).  Finished the round exactly on the number with some solid recoveries, no penalty strokes and only one 3-putt.
