You’re right, too early...greens appear receptive today. I doubt it’ll stay that way.

I also am expecting a +3-5 winner

I am happily surprised on Tiger and Rory.  I hope they can keep that up for all four days.

I would love to either one of those win this week.

I'm actually not surprised about Rory.  He had his kid, no complications that we know of, mom & child are fine, his wife probably has her mom/or other support, etc.  All that frees you up to go after it.  When you're expecting a child, your first especially, it's a nervous time.  I'd say he and his wife have a lot of support around them, and now that the baby is here, Rory can breathe more.  Sleep, on the other hand, is another matter haha.

Tiger isn't so surprising.  I think a lot of the holes favor a pull cut off the tee.  If he has his usual approach play and makes some putts, I like his chances.

After hearing Mike Davis last night, I am not surprised to see a few good scores early. Sounded like they wanted today to be a scoring day. Some easy pins and more receptive greens. Plus they trimmed the rough some.

You got a front coming in tonight. That’s gonna change this course completely tomorrow, particularly the wind and wind direction along with the dry air.

I tried watching on Peacock and the stream was stuttering. Switched to the USGA stream and no problems. Minor, but there's no pause button on Peacock, via a desktop browser. Guessing the source of both is the same, but Peacock is probably getting hammered more? Of all the streaming services, Peacock's interface I like the least.

Kill slow play. Allow walking. Reduce ineffective golf instruction. Use environmentally friendly course maintenance.

Rory's score surprises me a lot not just because I figured he'd have lack of sleep from now being a father, but because he doesn't have a good track record on traditional U.S. Open setups, the ones with fast tracks. His one win in the Open came on a slow track. Really his only other good finish in a U.S. Open was a backdoor top-10 at Chambers Bay. Did not see this coming at all.  Really, all four of his majors came on slow tracks.

      I honestly believe if they play longer tees by 300-400 yards, closer to or over 7,000 yards, more rough, tougher greens, women's golf will become much more gripping.  BTW, if it weren't for Scottie killing it right now, men's golf isn't exactly compelling.

      Yeah, that. It stands out… because it's so rare. And interest in Caitlin Clark will likely result in a very small bump to the WNBA or something… and then it will go back down to very low viewership numbers. Like it's always had. A small portion, yep. It doesn't help that she lost, either. Girls often don't even want to watch women playing sports. My daughter golfs… I watch more LPGA Tour golf than she does, and it's not even close. I watch more LPGA Tour golf than PGA Tour golf, even. She watches very little of either. It's just the way it is. Yes, it's a bit of a vicious cycle, but… how do you break it? If you invest a ton of money into broadcasting an LPGA Tour event, the same coverage you'd spend on a men's event… you'll lose a ton of money. It'd take decades to build up the interest. Even with interest in the PGA Tour declining.
