Hello all, I am new to your wonderful forum. Also pretty new to the game.

I enjoy the game and normally shoot in mid to high 90,s . So hers my question to  you.

I was hitting an older set of taylormade irons and decided to go get fitted at local reputable fitter. This was in july.

The fitting went awesome and I was fitted to Ping I500 with xp 95 s300 shafts and ordered them. they felt good and I had good numbers

My problem is they are hard for me to hit consistantly.

I dont blame the fitters at all just maybe I didnt give them enough information.

Are these clubs harder for others to hit?

Was I fitted wrong for My skill level?

Should I stick with what I was fitted for and my strikes with them will come along?

Also my old clubs were TM burners with regular shaft.

Thank You

@bilbobaggins1976, intuitively I would say that the i-series is not as forgiving as I would have recommended for an upper-90's player, but I, too, got a set of the i500's this past year and it took me several months before I started making consistent solid contact that I had previously enjoyed with the previous G-series. Having said that, my distances are much improved and I'm very happy with the switch.

Fitting malpractice IMO. These would be one of the hardest clubs to hit based on Maltby Playability:

About 4 or 5 years ago I went from the G5

to the i e1

The change with mis-hits was noticeable to me. The intended benefit was tighter dispersion and better distance control on scoring irons. IMO you should have been fitted with the G410 or the G710 irons. As you can see the higher the MPF the easier to hit and more appropriate for a beginner.

I have R300 shafts in my irons and have a swing speed roughly 100 mph for driver.

I’m a Ping fan boy and I try to like the i500 but I just have never hit a good shot with them and the sound ..the “ click”... can’t.  I’ve only hit it indoors but I have never had that issue with anything else.  They look so nice, but they are a small head with minimal offset which is not beginner friendly.

Exactly. Same issue I had. I had both the i500 and i200. Still have my i200 but sold the i500. I would still be playing the i200 but after a thorough fitting last year the Mavrik Pro came out on top.

The “click” sound is the club telling you you’re not supposed to hit the ball with the hosel 😜

I series irons are typically thought of as better for mid to lower hcp players.  G series irons are typically more geared toward mid to higher hcp players.  Although there are many lower hcp players who use the G series.  Especially in the longer irons.  Not that higher hcp’ers can’t use an I series iron.  It’s just that most consider the G series more forgiving of mis-hits than the I series.

As a mid 90s player I would say you were fitted wrong, IMHO. I would think the G series club would have been much better for you. I believe it will take you a long frustrating time to be able to game the I500. Sorry, just me opinion.

Pretty crazy that the i500 are lower than the Titleist 620 MBs. I would have never guessed that. Back when I was getting a fitting and getting back into the game I was set on the i500s for a little while as well.

:titleist:

I tried the i500s, couldn’t hit them well at all. Reshafted, still couldn’t hit them well.  Sold them to a relatively newer golfer, he loves them.  I doubt if you don’t like them now you’ll learn to like them.  Sorry, but their resale value should be pretty good.
