The US Open starts this Thursday.

I just found out that a guy from my area go in as an alternate. He goes to Ohio State, and went to Green HS in Uniontown, Ohio (about 20 minutes south of me).

So, I will be rooting for him to do well.

Pretty neat video the USGA uploaded of the course and setup.

Rotoworld does a nice job of previewing events so I'm including a link their US Open preview as well.

A 279 yard par 3!😬

Crazy. Although I watched golf channel this evening and they pointed out that both very long Par 3s play substantially shorter. They both also have wide openings to allow players to run the ball up. Don't be surprised if they're hitting knock-down 4-6 irons depending on the wind.

All the barrancas give me big Pinehurst No. 2 vibes.  Seems like a pretty cool course, looking forward to watching!

The official Snapfade prediction.

Winning score -8  ( maybe -6 again but I'm not thinking double digits)

Winner-Someone no ones talking about in the lead up to the tournament.

Some announcer will say something to the effect, "We're reminded of Tiger in _____, when he____."

"Will Matt Fitzpatrick join the list of back-to-back winners? (during first part of tournament)

"Looks like Matt Fitzpatrick will not be joining that list of back-to-back winners this year." ( If he gets to a point where he isn't in contention.)

I'd give odds on Steve Stricker making a run if he was playing.

I predict  Sheffler will win. Lack of  rough around the greens  is  concerning. Nice to see  5 par 3's.

Its concerning for the guy that comes in hot into the firm greens, there is not a "backstop" of thick rough to keep the ball from running. I don't see this being a "birdie fest" as they say for some tournaments. I think we are going to see a good Open.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Par is irrelevant. The players are all playing the same yardage so the goal is to move the ball X number of yards in the fewest number of strokes. That's it.

They could call it a par 2 or a par 6 if they really wanted to without changing the outcome of the tournament.

Plus as others have mentioned it plays significantly shorter than that. IIRC I heard on a preview podcast that Finau's caddie said they're playing it like a 230-240yd shot.

I dont think it will be a  birdie fest either.

Same dumb schtick since joining.

I love an underdog story.  Would be nice to see him in contention.

I only watched a little of the Flyover but the few holes I saw I like.  Looks like good placement of bunkers and can be a good challenge without tricking up the course.

This is not a prediction but.....Phil and Rory in the final group on Sunday with a playoff.  Talk about drama!

This place looks fun.  I particularly like #6, the short par 4.  Also the short par 3, #15.  The idea of them possibly setting a hole at a US Open to pitch-n-putt distance is awesome lol.

Yea an 80 yard par three should be fun given how protected that hole location will be. Hopefully we get a wide range of outcomes.

Looks like a lot of fun with some short birdie opportunities likely as well as easy bogeys from that front hole location from 80 yards. The video says the hole typically plays downwind too which should be an interesting wrinkle.
