Launch angle might be more important to pay attention to with a low spin driver?

Not trying to endorse the book LSW or anything, but this entire topic is inside the book along with many other topics.

I highly recommend getting it.

You stated that you tend to miss short or left. That means you tend to miss about half your shots short depending upon what your shot zone looks like. If you take one club more you have a better chance of hitting more greens. This could mean you hit around a club shorter than you think you do.

I was a little off on tend to miss left. But you'll see here. These are the graphics that are part of Game Golf that are quite valuable.
These are my typical approach distances.

125-150

100-125

75-100

Now something that has to be taken into consideration is that I did catch the ones that fell the most short a tad on the fat side, so it wasn't the fault of club selection but of poor contact. I do have a lot to work on, and part of that is the 1 to 2 years it takes to groove a swing, during which club distances change, and you can get in between two clubs and have to learn to hit a softer shot with the longer club. Growing pains essentially.

After some careful shagging and emptying my shag bag 6 times today... (2.5 hours)... I stated I hit 15 balls with each club today. I hit 20 good shots with each club and counted 15 to get a accurate average... Club-Loft. average D- 10.5°. 270 (total) 3w- 15°. 239 4w- 16.5°. 231 3h- 20°. 214 4h- 23°. 202 4i- 23°. 193 5i- 26°. 182 6i- 29°. 172 7i- 33°. 161 8i- 37°. 151 9i- 41°. 140 PW- 45°. 128 GW- 50°. 110 SW- 56°. 80 Waiting on my 50°, 54°, 58°, TGS wedges because I don't have the funds right now... Maybe I won't worry about it, and get them over the winter... When they go down to next to nothing on clearance... I wasn't 100% sure on my carry persay with the Driver... I busted one that I didn't count nearly 40 yards past the green I was hitting at... So I'm guessing my average carry is somewhere in the mid 250s because I hit the ball so damn high... I am looking into shafts that have a higher kick point however, I need to flight the ball down more, the pro I've been working with says the fact my shafts all have low kick points actually is hurting me...

If I were to list my yardages by club I would need two columns.  One for when the contact is nutted and another for when there is nothing nutted.  The averages of each club in those two columns would also be goofy.

I've had great drives of 310 yards and power drives into the left rough drives of 180 yards.  I've hit my 13* 3 wood turned down to 11* with a xstiff RIP Alpha shaft 297 yards and also 148 yards.  As you could imagine this makes club selection a treat.  I have to see how the day is looking and then weigh the past 3 holes to further adjust selection.  Had about a 6 week lay off and returning to play has been interesting/frustrating.

However a round filled with nutted shots is a delight....heck a round with 20% nutted is wonderful.

3 Iron: 210
4: 200
5: 190
6: 175
7: 155-160 This is my second best club and is money.

PW: 110  PW is really 100 to 110 and is my 3rd best club.
53*: 90
56*: 80

I don't often try to jump on a club so these are my regular smooth tempo swing.  I can jump on them but why?  I used to win a long drive hole in scrambles once or twice a year but I'm older now and have trouble with my hips.  Ironically, the last club I won on a long drive hole is the driver I now use.  LOL

I can hit my driver 250, meaning I do it once or twice a round.  My average would probably be about 220-230 if I don't include the really bad mis-hits that happen occasionally, like yanking it left and hitting a tree for a total distance of 100 yards.

The really funny thing is, how far can I hit my 64 degree wedge?   I would say, about 10 yards max.   It goes straight up in the air.   I don't hit it on the range any more, because it's just too embarrassing.

No... the distances on the first quote from earlier this morning are all carry distances. I get 275-280 total average, on the LM.

The post from September is total yardage. I actually hit my old XRail against the EX9...  my XRail was around 250-255 carry, with the wrong shaft, grip size, etc.

I was launching around 16.5°, with 3300 spin, with a fade with the XRail...

I'm launching the EX9 around 14.5° on neutral and the spin is around 2600 rpm... (I also fixed my grip, which was too weak in the left hand, I wasn't seeing enough knuckles)... Now I'm actually hitting either pretty straight, or a 2 yard draw, which added carry distance... now I have to learn to turn my 3-hybrid into a 210 carry club when I need it...

Long story, short, I've gotten properly fit, and I've taken what amounted to a free lesson and I have one more at the place I was fitted for my clubs. The pro is really good, he answers all my questions.

Here goes-

Sw(55)-110-115

Aw(50)-135-140

Pw(45)-150 ish

9-160

8-170

7-180-185

6-190-195

5-200-210

4-around 220

5 wood-240 ish

3 wood-260-270

Driver- In and around 300

All carry distances.

I kinda know this is a little unbelievable considering I only started playing 7 months ago but that's the way it is. I just hit it long and now I am glad to say mostly straight.

For irons I am completely confident that these are close to my exact numbers , ditto for 5 wood. It's the 3 wood I am not sure about if I am honest.

As for the driver, well either I am genuinely hitting 300 plus or there is a tailwind every single time I hit it.(420 yard  straight holes leave me with around 110-100 yards to the green regularly, longest drive ever left me with 170 to the hole on a 500 yard hole, I honestly went wtf on that hole)

I would like to add that I very very rarely hit a full swing on clubs from Sw to Pw, and generally avoid hitting full shots with the nine iron. I don't know if I am alone in this feeling but it feels more strenuous to hit full swings on shorter clubs than the longer ones.

I think I've posted in here before but I couldn't find myself so here:

Driver: I have two shots, the "fairway finder" and the "power" shot. My fairway finder goes about 275on average and my power shot flies a lot higher and farther, actually I'm not even sure the average but it's probably around 290 and that's being generous. If I'm really feeling it I can crank it but most of the time I end up swinging way out of my shoes and Its a swing I'm not really comfortable with, but the last time I did it at a long drive competition and it carried 314 and rolled out to 345.

3 Wood: Depends if I'm playing a high or normal shot, anywhere from 245-260

5 wood: 235

4 iron: 210 full

5 iron: 200 full

6 iron: 190 full

7 iron: 175 full

8 iron: 160 full

9 iron: 145 full

pw: 120 full shot but if I'm playing a 120 yard shot I play it with my 9

52: 100 full shot but I'd use a pw from 100

56,60: no clue.

I really don't like swinging crazy hard out of my shoes so I prefer to grip down on a  club stronger than what I need. I'm a "big hitter" in terms of amateurs but I'm probably around the tour average so I'm content, and I don't really feel like trying to amp up my SS and tempo.

Those are the clubs I hit the most.  Forgot my 4h. It's anywhere between 100-200. My lowest iron is a 6 and I hit that Maybe 165. But with my current issue with shanks it's irrelevant, cause I haven't hit that since February.  Been choking down on the 4h and hitting it instead of a 6

    • Sure, but how was your alignment? 🙂 Day 53 - 2024-11-22 Mirror work after getting back home. Wife is a superstar for her career/job/whatever.
    • I would say your back nine is the second nine you play that day. It's part of what makes getting some of those holes tougher. Or, if 18 holes are played pretty often, out of A, B, and C, and you often play A and C, A is the front and C is the back, regardless of the order you play them in. That way not birdieing C #7 isn't overcome by birdieing the easier A #7 on a day you played it C-A instead of A-C. But, at the end of the day, nobody really cares except yourself.
    • Day 128: played 9. Nice little even 9, with 2 birdies and 2 bogeys.
