Actually flew a couple drives out to 250 carry mark when I really put a swing behind it... more aggresive hip punch forward. Just been working on smooth tempo, and hopefully the distance gaps will tighten up. Thinking I need something in the lines of a 4i, and a 13 or 14º 3w.

Driver: 270 - 280 (total)

3 Wood: 170, about 5' off the ground, somewhere right

4 hybrid: 210

4 iron: 195-205

9 iron: 150-155

PW: 130-140

GW: 115-120

SW: 95

LW: No clue, never use for full swings.

I'm getting old and I've never been a long hitter. But I do stay in the short stuff most of the time.

This is my second post to this thread. It reflects the changes in distance I have due to the re-vamped swing I use because of two spine surgeries in 2012. I have to be very careful from now on. Essentially, I hit every club like it's a 75-yard pitch with my sand wedge.

Driver - 215 yards

7-iron - 132 yards

You can figure out the rest.

Fortunately, this new swing lets me hit the ball really straight, so if I play from the right set of tees, I can still score.

I got on the green on a 413-yard par 4 in two a few days ago with a drive and a 19-degree hybrid. The hybrid shot landed short of the green and rolled on. Both shots were dead straight.

I am in the same boat with Eric though, I never hit my SW or LW in full swing.  These are average with a good swing.  I am not counting bad swings in my head for this calculation

Somewhat updated distances from few months ago, these are not averages - these are clubs I would hit when given a certain carry: Driver 240 carry, sometimes I'll go for 250 carry but not a hazard, bunker for example 3w 220 carry 3hy 200-205 carry 4i 195 5i 187 6i 179 7i 170 8i 161 9i 150 45 wedge 138 50 wedge 125 55 wedge 113 60 wedge 92 The shorter the club, the more accurate these distances are. And for the really long hitters posting...I play 60-70 rounds a year and I get out driven once in a while, maybe 2-3 times a season I meet someone that gets it out there as far as me or few yards longer. I use gps and a range finder and it's amusing when I play with someone, they'll hit the best drive of the day, I measure it and always ask how far he thinks he hit. The lower the handicap, the closer they are usually, but average golfer thinks he hit it 280 total when it's actually somewhere around 250 (total with roll). 250 drive is way above average and most golfer don't realize that, 250 on most par 4s gives u a wedge or less into the green.

If I had to estimate my carry distances, they would be the following (PGA Tour averages in brackets):

Driver - 270 (275)

3-Wood - 245 (243)

3-Hybrid - 230 (225)

4i - 210 (203)

5i - 200 (194)

6i - 190 (183)

7i - 175 (172)

8i - 170 (160)

9i - 160 (148)

PW - 145 (136)

AW - 130 (??)

SW - 115 (??)

LW - 100 (??)

I guess I would classify myself as a long hitter then. :-O

Driver 270-280 most of the time. I was 3' short of driving a 291 yard par 4 the other day. My long drive record is 320something.

I almost never hit the others, so I don't really know them.

Yardages are measured to the center of the green.  Depending on the depth of the green, you probably hit that drive somewhere in the 260ish range.....

Just sayin'. ;-)

    • Rule 1.2b refers you to a section in the Committee Procedures (Section 5I) that helps explain what a Code of Conduct may (and may not) do.  Defining acceptable behavior (including smoking) and applying Stroke of DQ penalties are certainly within the Committee's authority. That Code of Conduct certainly should be available, either in written form or in a webpage accessible to all.  It may not show up on the "standard local rules" for an organization, the "hard card", as it sounds like its a policy of this particular golf course. Assuming that's the case it should show up on the Notice to Players for this particular event.  If you can't find it, ask someone, send an email, try to find out.   In summary, yes the Committee can DQ (or withdraw) a Player for smoking, even before or between rounds.  But its up to you to go from there, communication is the key here.

    • Hmm... I not sure I completely understand. If the course has a no smoking policy, then he shouldn't smoke at the course.  I'm assuming since you are aware of the policy, it must be written down somewhere.  As far as getting disqualified from the tournament, I would think that would be up to the committee. But it feels like it is within their power to disqualify, so why take the chance?
