That's because you're a better golfer.  It's not how far, it's how many!  Notice how Bubba Watson and Dustin Johnson don't win every week...

Neither do Brian Gay and Brad Faxon. All other things being equal, longer is better, but long and wild is just plain annoying.

People talk about there's no way a 20 handicapper can drive it 280+, first of all who really cares of far some guy on the internet hits the ball. Secondly there is a lot of factors that go into how far the ball is hit, there is elevation, temp, how fast the fairways are. Im a 6 handicap and my better drives are around 280 and I play pretty close to sea level and on good fairways but definatly not real fast.

we should consider that reading correctly is important, one thing is your best drive ever hit, and other is average driving distance,

I am over 6 foot tall and about 220 pounds, and my handicap is 36, yet I may hit about 250 yds + carry fairly straight every now and then with my cleveland launcher comp 460 10.5° stiff shafted driver. I SAID EVERY NOW AND THEN,

Average is about 215-225 + carry and also not that straight.

I hit very consistently my wilson fybrid #3 hybrid, 21° ust proforce v2 stiff, about 180 + carry, usuarlly very straight, hardly miss a fairway with it from the tee.

exeptionally, little over 200 yds with this club.

Enjoy

58 degree- 110

I hit shots today for the first time since I had shoulder surgery for a Torn Labrum in October, it had been an issue for a few years.

Used the PW and 50 degree, was hitting them 10-15 yards further on the range than I was before the surgery.

These numbers will probably get a bump

There really is no way a 20+ 'capper can average 280+.

Yeah, I think most people realize this thread is a joke.  I'd be willing to bet 1 in 20 people on here gave a true average number.  High handicaps are not able to swing on plane, nor can they consistently bring the club to the ball and strike it squarely.  Distance requires just that.  I'd subtract about 40-50 yards from everyone's driver distance to get the real number.  Those who say they hit it 285 probably average around 245.

I was completely honest, so there's at least 1 out of 190.  If you're exaggerating you don't put 260 for your driver...  I'm certainly not bragging, but I've been the longest hitter in every group I've played in for nearly 2 years.  And I average about 260.

Reading through some of these pages, it's hilarious to see the handicaps relative to distances.  If you're hitting the driver 275-280 and are a 20 handicapper, I'm thinking more often than not that 280 was more like 220 AHEAD of the tee box and 60 yards right of it.

It's pointless, but I'll play along.

I'm mostly hitting my 7-iron now at the range, and at 0 degrees Celcius or below and almost frozen golfballs I'm averaging (8/10) on about 155 yards (carry) with my 7-iron.

As a 9 handicap, these are my average distances.

I've seen some people mentioning they play close to sea level. And I actually play below sea level. Not sure how that affects my distance.

I can usually dial each up another 5 yards if needed.  Distance is overrated if you're not playing 7200 yard courses.

    • Yea Club Rat said it. I really enjoyed the Senator and the Judge, then over to Grand National where there a couple good courses plus a fun par 3. The one I do play whenever I visit there is Ross Bridge; something about this course that is just good fun. I hope to play more of the courses in the future, but tomorrow is promised to no one, so hope is the key word. Have Fun, iSank

    • Day 56: 4/19/2024 Okay, even though I'll be teeing it up in a tournament in less than a week. I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
