You guys are Brutal.  Don't you know how much talent it takes to shank a ball in one take like that!  Shanks are the better golfers vice anyway.  Leave Mike alone!

That is exactly what I thought when I watched video! "I wish I could do that. Wait a minute, what the hell am I talking about." Still pretty cool that you can hit an intentional shank in on attempt.

Yours in earnest, Jason.

That is nothing. I can hit a shank without even trying.

It wasn't the first take. I let him hit until he shanked, then we started the video. Sorry - that's the magic of Hollywood for you. :)

It's easy to shank on purpose. Just look four inches outside the golf ball or so and try to hit that spot.

Yep, Erik's "tip" helped, I rarely hit shanks, my big miss is off the toe.  Actually last time I unintentionally shanked it was when I made my first trip to Erie, summer '10.  Nice way to show off my "skills" for the first time, hit about 10 shanks in a row hahaha

You were just star struck is all the first time. If I can make it out there later this year, I will probably not even make contact with the ball. Not joking on the last part.

Want to make sure I keep my Stupid Monkey award Pivot rates aren't great towards end of backswing but think this could be a really good drill for me to create the "separation" of the lower center to the upper center on the downswing.

Nice, Mike.

Looks like you still need more of this:

How's the process been going with this.

Agree that's a piece that needs to get better and it has.  Worked on this with James when I was in Orlando and worked with Dave and Erik with the head staying centered when I was in Erie.  IMO the back swing is connected to what I do on the downswing but I can also improve the downswing without the backswing being perfect.  Kind of tough to explain lol  Regarding how they're connected, if the backswing gets narrow, then I start to kick out the wrist angles too soon (or at too fast a rate), the head drifting forward is a reaction to that.  I also think, and Dave pointed this out, that it's just something I do and have probably done for a while.  I know I have also had that narrow look on the back swing for a while, I use to swing past parallel with a 7 iron.

So the culprit isn't the 2nd accumulator, left wrist hinge, it's more of too much right wrist bend.  From dtl at A3 I have my palm facing the camera, other players you'll see their knuckles facing the camera.  That excessive right wrist bend can also lead to me looking "bunched up" at A4.  So I actually need to feel no right wrist bend and a little more PA#2.  Or like James talked about, from A2-3, feel the angle of the club shaft to the right forearm increases.  The priority lately has been the motion of the head from A4-6 and making sure the pelvis doesn't tuck too early but will be doing more practice with the back swing.

Great stuff, Mike, and a really important thing to be aware of for sure, in your case! Thanks for my requested update. Right wrist dorsiflexion and radial deviation are not the same thing, but I can see how the two can get blended together excessively in a player's backswing.

Drill and dtl from today.  For the drill feeling weight transfer, head steady, right elbow lower than the left to about A5.5, then hit it.

Little "lifty" at A4, would like to see the hips/torso turn a little more.  I like where the hands/arms are at A5

Great stuff Mike.  Not that it matters what I like or think, but your A5 does look fantastic to me.   It takes a lot of hard work to get to that position for sure.   Jealous... ;-)
