Everyone (Im assuming) has that player or players that they try to emulate, or swing just like they do. Who do you try to copy in your swing, and why?

For me, its JB Holmes. Copying his shorter take away/backswing has really done wonders for me and my game. However driving the ball like he does isn't working so well. Haha

The great irony of life: "If nobody gets out alive, what's holding you back!?"

Ben Hogan : Should be quite obvious why. I also draw a lot of inspiration from the fact that he hit rock bottom as a professional before sky-rocketing to golf greatness.

Fred Couples : Love this guy's tempo, rhythm and demeanor. I've been watching him play for over 20 years and it seems as though his swing has been exactly the same.

Tiger Woods : Pure putting genius.

Charlie Wi, because he fits the S&T; pattern best. By emulating him I emulate a lot of other players too of course, but he's the closest to the complete swing.

My two favorite players when i was a kid was Greg Norman and Nick Price. I remember watching the British Open at my grandparents house, watching Nick win. I love his compact, high tempo swing. I naturally walk fast, and talk fast, so my swing is pretty high tempo, so i have to keep it compact as possible or things get bad.

But as per a move, or style of swing, i have no clue. Its just what feels good for me. I never really tried to copy a players position.

I try not to follow anyone's swing.. their swing is their's because it works for them

2013 Goal:

Single digit handicap

As far as pros the ones I have tried to take the most from are Couples and Nicklaus. I don't try to emulate their swings but more of the mental approaches.  From Nicklaus the idea of working the ball to maximize the fairway and minimize trouble and from Freddie, the rhythm (not that you'd recognize it from my swing, LOL) and when actually playing not to think of too many mechanics--" I take it back, and I hit it, and that's as good as it gets".  I try to set up correctly (Nicklaus) then swing freely (Couples). Of course I don't often achieve it but those are my goals anyway.

It's weird, I don't think I've ever actually tried comparing or emulating my swing to one of the pros.  Well for me, I guess I'd go with what Mattplussness said, that they have their swing and I have mine.  And to keep the reoccurring theme going, there's no one way to hit a golf ball, so why match somebody elses' swing when my swing works for me.

Easy.  For me it's definitely Mr. Couples.  I love his take-away and they way he gets the club in great position for the downswing and uses his shoulder's to turn away from the ball, but gets his hips into it on the downswing and follow through.  Absolutely one of the sweetest swings in the game in my opinion.

Hmmmmm...my swing is not really close to anyone's, nor do I think I am trying to copy a pros....putting I have tried and copied Tiger's.

As for swing, probably Lee Westwood ( not trying to emulate his swing though ) if anyone. You decide:

I haven't actually seen my own swing, I've seen a couple pictures when I took lessons but never got a video, I should do that.

I've got a very tight rotation so I would think it was more like Davis Love, Anthony Kim, Sean O'Hair, or even like Kaymer.

Definitely Steve Stricker.  I think I have a little more wrist-cock than he does, but a full turn with a half swing has helped me to improve my ball stricking and consistancy.

Almost all my favorite swing instruction has come from two of my uncles - so I'm modeling my swing on theirs, I guess.

My goal is to emulate Mr. Hogan but it would be an insult to him to say I do now.

    • Take this with a grain of salt but, when I see high speed/high leverage freewheeling swings like yours (from your swing video), it makes me think that considering the combo of outward and downward pressure required, you might not be applying sufficient downward pressure through impact. Tendency is more out than down. A good analogy is keeping an inflated ball pushed down underwater in a pool. I think it is the hardest force/pressure component to master.  It's a guess. I also think back pain is a symptom, theoretically speaking.
    • Heron Ridge in Virginia Beach yesterday, hole #7 for those in the area.  Would this box be considered an immovable obstruction with free relief?  (It was in my back swing as the hole was to the left of my ball in the picture.)  You can see that it sits just off the cart path.  How about all the mud and tire tracks?  When I addressed the ball my feet were sinking in wet mud so I took relief for standing water.  Right or wrong?  Thoughts?

    • Not sure how I feel about that. Heckling is always been part of sports and a professional athlete should be able to ignore comments and continue on with their play.  Having said that, historically golf has a higher standard of etiquette. I agree with you that fans who are a problem shouldn’t be tolerated. I think should be removed from the premises in hopes to discourage behavior, but I’m not sure I can justify Rory taking the guys phone from him.
