Yeah, even though the first Casio I bought used tanked on me and I had to buy a second new, it was well worth it. The instant adjustable speed playback and the large screen is awesome. In some instances, I don't even need to look at the video on a big screen off range. Nothing like a objective set of "eyes" on you to keep you on track. I might be a little extreme in this, but video should be required for practicing, it is such a help.

Fuji is starting to make high speed video cameras.  The reviews I read were pretty positive.

Unfortunately, it's not at a good resolution at all:

I think I'm going to up my budget.

As if to prove that everything takes me forever to do, I'm finally ready to make a purchase. On the advice in this thread, I've decided to spend the money necessary, and the two front runners given were Canon ZR100, which I can find used in "like new" condition, and the Casio FC150, which I can get actually-new for a little bit more money (that I'm willing to spend). Unfortunately, I have no idea how to compare the two. The FC150 is about $50 more, which I'm willing to spend. Can I get some suggestions on how to make this decision?

I just purchased a FC150 2 days ago. Still waiting for it to arrive, hopefully early next week. I didn't look into the canon to be honest, didn't know they even did cameras. Mine cost $205USD incl shipping from www.electron-world.com , it was the cheapest place I could find on the net. You may be able to get it cheaper in the US though. Shipping to New Zealand can be expensive sometimes!

Yep, that's where I intend to buy it. [quote name="mikedelo" url="/forum/thread/46778/camera-suggestions-needed/18#post_614941"]

I have been using my Flip Cam.  After reading your post, I am not sure if that is the best camera to use.  It is HD though.

I just picked up an FH100 and it is very clearly superior to my old FC100. The manual shutter and ISO controls allow you to get far better quality video under lower light conditions (overcast days) and to isolate the club shaft position much more accurately from a face-on view. It also has a larger and brighter LCD display than the FC models, making it a lot easier to use for on-site playback and analysis. With the FC, I pretty much had to wait to get home and load the video on the computer before I could see anything in enough detail to be useful.

This camera is currently the best available choice for filming your golf swing, I think. And if Erik's suspicions are right and Casio are scaling down their high-speed offerings, you should probably get one while you still can. The newer ZR range do not have manual controls for video and are not a comparable replacement.

Yeah tell me about it. I am somewhat disappointed with the FC150 I just got last week. The shaft blur is a bit of a pain, although I haven't had a sunny day yet (winter sucks) so hopefully when the sun comes out it will improve quality. However I find the camera great in all other aspects. It is easy to use and I have no problems reviewing footage at the range straight away. Here is a video I took the other day. See the shaft start to blur for most of downswing. I think the aspect ratio was changed when I put the slo mo effect in windows movie maker, not sure why.

Edit: I keep forgetting to try recording at 120fps, the above video is 240fps. I may get a better view of shaft at 120fps, not really sure??

What do you guys think is the best all round camera right now for videos and stills? I would like more megapixels than my Zi8 at 5.3 for still pictures.

Depends on what you use it for. @tristanhilton85 has a great camera for sale (or had ) Casio EX-ZR700 on the Marketplace

Being cheep, I've found something for $3.99, SloPro app for iphone.

Here's a video I took this morning.  The light is not so good as it's behind me.  1st video is at 40% speed, 2nd video is at 25% speed.  Seems to work, not pro quality, seems good enough for home use, and cheap. Jump to about 1/2 way through the videos to where the swing starts.

Why the 6+? Doesn't the 6 have the same camera?

I get my 6+ on Thursday, apparently it does 240 FPS and should be good quality with OIS. I'll let you know what it's like for golf swings, unless somebody already has one?

Thanks for the responses. Maybe it's time I went a little more modern. My cell phone is just a "Plain Jane" that I rarely turn on, rarely take out of the truck, and has made or recieved less than 5 calls a year in the last 10 years.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
