Quote:

Canada's Isabelle Beisiegel has become the first female golfer to earn a playing card on a men's professional tour.

The 32-year-old Montreal native finished equal ninth Friday in the Canadian Professional Golf Tour's Spring Qualifying School to take one of the last two nonexempt spots.

Beisiegel had a 4-under 68 in the third round, then closed with a 75 in rainy conditions to finish at 8-over 296. She opened with rounds of 75 and 78.

"I still can't believe it. It's a little overwhelming," Beisiegel said. "I went into today just trying not to get ahead of myself. I focused on thinking about where I was and not what could happen. I was assured in the fact that no matter what happened it was going to be OK."

Good for her. I've never liked the "stunt casting" model of parachuting famous (Sorenstam) or promising (Wie) women into mens events just to see what will happen. But any woman with the game to earn her way in just the same as the guys she's competing against, has every right to be there.

I wonder if she intends to compete regularly. [quote name="iacas" url="/forum/thread/46973/woman-qualifies-for-men-s-tour#post_608712"]<

Some o ne who calls himself that re-sufaces every few months to spam my YouTube videos, Golf Evolution's YouTube videos, etc. He's super-irate at the fact that the PGA Tour (and most other predominantly male tours) don't have any rules that exclude women. He thinks that because women can play on the PGA Tour, that men should be able to play on the LPGA Tour... and he behaves like he's 12 in his constant harassing comments. It's gotten to the point now where it's far more comical than anything else.

Nobody respond to this... it's off-topic at best.

That's my feeling too.

congratulations to her for being able to qualify for a mens tour, but in my opinion it wont last very long, the women just dont have the game to play with the men

If she was able to get her tour card through qualification, she must have beaten a hell of a lot of men on her way there. Granted, the Canadian Tour doesn't exactly command the world's best, but it's still a pretty big deal.

Wouldn't she have to make the top 125 on the money list to keep from having to re-qualify next year? I'd assume that a lot of nobodies earn cards and then can't compete well enough and fall out after a short career. Even if she did the same, that's saying a lot. She'd have to outplay a lot of men just to keep her card. It'll be interesting to see how well and where she competes. I think a lot of TOUR hopefuls this year got their egos bruised a little. :-P

If women can compete on the men's tour, why is it men can't compete on the women's tour?

I genuinely don't care either way though...

Seriously?

For the same reason a guy who is 30 can't join the Champions Tour or play in the U.S. Junior Amateur. The PGA Tour doesn't say you must be a man. The LPGA Tour requires its contestants to be women.

Simple as that. Is this really hard to grasp? Every time this topic comes up someone says men should be able to play on the LPGA Tour.

It's fairly common in golf to be allowed to attempt to move UP to a higher level of competition. Amateurs play in many professional events, but we'd never let a professional play in an amateur event. It's the same idea.

False logic at its best.  You are assuming equal footing, when--i know some feminists hate to admit it--men and women are NOT equal especially when it comes to sports.  I am not saying men are better.  I am just saying they are not the same.  So don't spam me.

But in golf Shindig is absolutely right.

    • Good episode on Skill versus Technique. I agree with definitions. It makes sense in my head that skill is part learned and part just genetics. Technique is mostly learned but also can be limited by your own skill in how well you develop motor patterns, which is a skill.  They are intertwined together to a point, but definitely not the same.
