Yeah, we talked about this a little on twitter when I saw the videos. IMO, its better to take a leap and exaggerate when it comes to this piece. You either end up closer to the middle than you imagined you would have OR the middle becomes a lot more comfortable after feeling the other extreme.

With better turning rates, I don't think it would have been as exaggerated as it seemed. "Up" is "out" (to a point) without the "in" created by the shoulder turn.

Played nine this morning, shot 40.  I recorded almost all the shots from the round.  There was a par 3 where I did not get the two putts on film cuz a granpappy in a cart was passing me by at the spee

Yeah he only knows one way to swing at the moment! ;) I have not tried to teach him anything yet.

Question for @iacas or @mvmac .  My boy Ethan really took to playing this weekend and wants to golf every Saturday now with me.  He is just six at the moment.  Should I try to change anything at the moment with his set-up or anything, or just let him, have fun?  I am, leaning towards just the fun, but don't know if the way he holds his hands apart on the club or anything like that is bad in the long run.  Basically the only thing I have told him at all is to try and swing a bit easier, not quite so all out... :-D

Maybe buy a cheap kids set. Something a bit lighter maybe. He does look to struggle a bit swinging that driver around. I know he'll probably grow out of them fast, but couldn't hurt.

I would say keep it fun, its a good sign he wants to take the initiative. :beer:

I think you might want to let him swing "all out".

Hasn't it been said it is easier to train accuracy than speed?

The set I got him earlier this year and he is using in the videos is this one .  It is a 5-8 year old kids set.  He is just a bit small for his age, probably because of his asthma, but yeah it is definitely a bit big for him at the moment.

I think you might want to let him swing "all out".

Hasn't it been said it is easier to train accuracy than speed?

I am fine with close to all out.  He just has to make sure he at least hits the ball and does not hit the back of his head with the club though. :-D

      I feel quite confident that for the people in the picture, this comment might as well have been private. Chances of them seeing a quote from either Clayton or Faxon is virtually nil. Even if they saw it, I would be pretty surprised if they cared.  There is certainly a chunk of "bah humbug" about the whole thing though. I don't think it paints either of them in a particularly good light.

      I agree with the sentiment (about walking) but it’s uncalled for to make such a public comment - if you can’t say something nice don’t say anything, at least that’s how I was taught. Perhaps it was meant for private conversation and was mistakenly made public – I’m just a little younger than Faxon and I could easily make that mistake. At least in the last two places I’ve lived, there’s a certain sub-culture of the golf population that despite being younger would never consider walking (and usually drinks heavily while playing). It’s more about hanging out with the Bro’s in the outdoors than playing golf. I don’t have a problem with that, except that they often are less knowledgeable about golf etiquette and fail to let faster players through. As an aside, when I lived in TN, my main course was cart path only from December through March. It was a short, flat, very walkable course. It drove me crazy that all these fit young guys wouldn’t even think about walking, never realizing that they were probably walking just as much as I was and that they were playing slower.

      I get the feeling he has come up with a lot of catch phrases to make himself sound competent. He could be right on some things, but it comes out as fake to me.  It bothered me when he pulled up the graphic of the human body, showing what looked like a muscle that cross the body (hip to opposite shoulder). There are no muscles that actually do that. There is this stretch and pull, but it isn't like a single muscle that is connected like that.
