It's not subjective at all. www.tsa.gov Print out the prohibited list and take it with you. If they give you trouble ask to talk to a supervisor. Don't talk to a smurf, tell them you want to talk to the person that comes to work in a suit, not a costume .

I wonder how helpful that would be.

I guess it all depends upon what your personal feelings are about cavity searches....

They don't like it, but they don't have to.  It's not my problem that they're molesting people in the name of "security theater".  They have rules, they need to follow them, and we need to make sure that they get zero slack.

Flying out tomorrow at 5 AM.  If they do give me any crap I think I'll just toss the balls.  Not worth the hassle to save a few bucks.  I'll definitely try to get them through though.

You'll have NO problem, I promise. Have fun, and let us know how the course was! Drink a little rum for me . :-)

No problems at all with the balls. Overall the Trip was fantastic, the caddy was extremely friendly and pretty much gave my girlfriend and I a lesson while playing (along with retrieving every one of our errant shots). The course was pretty good, the crabgrass rough was different than what I'm used to, have to put a pretty good swing on it to get it out. I liked the caddy so much on the first day that I went back and played 18 with him on the second while the GF had a spa day. Ended up shooting a 48 on the front with a lot of mulligans but a 41 on the back with only 4-5 rehits (the caddy wouldn't let me go until I hit the shot he wanted). My highlight of the day was 3 natural pars in a row, and the whole round I only 3 putted twice, didn't take any mulligans on the greens. I've never broken 110 when keeping score for real, I'm not sure what I would have shot had I not taken the mulligans, but dropping and playing an extra ball every time I had a mishit shot definitely helped me improve, I was able to tell what I did wrong on the mishit and correct it. I'm excited to play this weekend and hopefully see improvements when I keep a real score.

  • 2 years later...

I had my golf balls in my carry on and they were confiscated by TSA on the return trip from Cabo to the US.  Apparently they can be weaponized.  My GF is a flight attendant and she could not believe it.  Anyway the TSA started taking them out of my bag and placing them in the flat metal table and you can imagine what happened then.  On top of that were the comments from those around me about losing my balls etc....I would have been angry if the whole thing was not so funny.   Glad they weren't new ProV1s.

So, not TSA, but rather Mexican security, correct?

I just usually check the golf balls in my golf bag. I think I once put a dozen golf balls in my carry on but had no issue with them going through TSA.

I've had golf balls in my carry on luggage several times and have never had an issue.   I used to do this all the time, as I had a dozen pro V1's taken from my golf bag.  I had a couple dozen in my side pocket still in the boxes and one was missing, at least he/she didn't steal them both.  However, now when I travel I take all of the balls out of the packaging (and usually mark them) and leave them in the bag, someone might steal a couple but I haven't had an issue since.

Well they already make exploding golf balls as a gag. Who's to say we will never hear about a real exploding golf ball that has been thrown? Yeah, it's a stretch, but in these times, you just never know.

That is what I argues when i had 24 new balls in my carry on, their argument was, you could take them out and throw them at other passengers and injure them >>>> oh well... better to be safe than sorry :)

They've never seen me throw.  Everyone is safe that I aim at.

    • I just ordered a Titleist TSR 2 #4 hybrid to replace my 3 driving iron.

    • Well, I have a 2 hybrid, 4 hybrid and then play 6 iron onwards.  My best clubs are probably the 4 hybrid and the PW.  What I find is that loft is your friend in general which is why my 4 hybrid is so much better than my 2 hybrid.  Definitely disproportionately more so than the 5 or so degrees of difference in loft.  If you have hybrids, play them.  And consider loft as your friend.  Invariably you will get up to a loft where anything less will not get you more distance because of your club head speed.  Essentially the faster you swing the less lofted a club you can hit effectively.  For me it is probably a 4 hybrid and maybe a 7 iron though I could improve both with practice
