Sergio thrives on making who ever he is playing with an "enemy" to help him get out of his own head. Anger drives him. It seems typical with Spaniards in competitive sports.  It is just his ego and the fact that he has never lived up to his "hype". His biggest issue is that he cannot just accept his situations and responsibilities.

Tiger being focused and picking a club to use for a shot to be at fault... I guess I don't know if the crowd cheers like this ever time he pulls a club in these situations but either way get over yourself SG

Yes, I think it hurt both his wrist/hand and ego as well as his score.

He was close to the tree and was trying to take an upright swing which he did on the way back, but re-routed it to the inside at transition/on the way down and caught the tree which deflected his club resulting in him hitting the ground about a foot in front of the ball.

Mostly a bad break, but one of the announcers commented that he would have been better off playing a fade (less likely to re-route to the inside).  He could also have punched/chipped out which is what he ended up doing on his 3rd shot

Sergio had the honor because he started with a 1 shot lead.

Interesting, that is not how I have seen it explained by announcers at other events- always thought ties were broken by who completed their round first with first in being last out.

My opinion about the Tiger Sergio shot is this. Sergio and Tiger were 50 yards away from each other so thats already a long distance.  If you just watch the replay of when Sergio hits his shot it sounds like the noise came after he made contact.  But when you watch the split screen you can see that the noise was well before Sergio's shot.  There is no way that either player could have helped the situation (Tiger is playing ready golf/Sergio is focused on his shot) its just one of those things in golf that happen.  But the blame that nobody seems to be talking about should be on the spectators.  The fans should know that Sergio is about to hit and should not be yelling during another players routine.  You can even see Tiger make a gesture towards the fans to be quiet when he pointed in Sergio's direction.

You're correct, but it sounds like Tiger cleaned up his putt out of turn, so had they followed protocol and Sergio sank his putt, Sergio would have actually holed out first.

So Sergio was upset because Tiger's crowd cheered when he swung... Tiger responds "It's not that strange for Sergio to complain" Sergio: "it's no secret we don't like each other, I'm glad we aren't playing together in the inal round" Go Tiger, Sergio is such a whiny baby.

Missed this yesterday.  Did anyone catch Lee Westwood's tree aided whiff?!

I had it going in the background but I managed to see that one as it happened. Hilarious!

His reaction is even better... "Wtf?!?" Glad he didn't hurt himself...

Sergio really has become a little whiny baby lately. You are at a professional golf event, there is going to be cheering in the background...

If Westwood loses by a stroke, that whiff will hurt even more.  I've done it before - shrubs in the backswing. Surprised he tried it again, but with a shorter swing. I would have hit it backhanded after the first whiff.

TCG/Chamblee talked about LaCava having a role in this whole Tiger-Sergio mess. Caddies should have said something to each other to avoid the situation that happened.   Chamblee said TW owed Sergio an apology to let him know that it was unintentional. Sportsmanship. TW was never known to have it either (like Sergio).

Anyone watch the live coverage on PGA.com? I watched for hours on Friday and this a.m. (Kaymer/Schwartzel). Enjoy looking at the course layout more than anything....

Yup...two guys that both have the Hogan-esque ability to remember everything and never let a grudge slide...

I would imagine that had Tiger's crowd cheered during Sergio's backswing and Sergio managed to still hit a good shot, he wouldn't be complaining... He hit it bad and looked for an excuse. It's like when you run your elbow into the door then punch the door like it was ITS fault. Lol

Sergio should never be put in the same sentence with Hogan for any reason.

Haha, I posted there because I didn't think anyone had brought it up yet, then I saw it here... Sorry.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
