Have read that as an 'outsider' or guest,  playing at Muirfield is among the most difficult courses in the world to get onto.  Not just the cost but the members just don't like other folks messing about on their track.

I'm expecting most of the really historic courses to be this way, but I shall not be deterred. [/quote] If that's all I can get, they'll be some awesome pictures from the gate! I've quickly figured out that there are more to visit than I'll have time for. Got to prioritize!

Just learned on TGC that Carl Petterson - who was one of the guys threatening to sue regarding the anchored putter ruling - has decided to go with a conventional length putter (with a split claw grip) at Muirfield this week.  He also used it on Sunday at the John Deere and recorded 28 putts.  Supposedly he's been "broomstickin' it" since 1998.

Good for him, I hope he does well!

Stannis Baratheon won at Muirfield! Wooo!

HE is the rightful heir to the trophy, not the usurper Renly!

I wonder if/how the members keep handicaps if they're only allowed to play that way? I guess they either need to play other courses, or there's a special handicap system they use for alternate-shot fourball.

All of their handicaps are from the 1980s, back when they were young enough to play their own ball.

Thoughts on Lefty emphasizing that he will be removing the Driver from his bag and replacing it with another wedge?  With weather conditions looking to be fair (minimal wind and rain) is this the best idea in your opinion?

What other players at Muirfield (if any) are choosing to take the Drivers out?  I have heard of many replacing higher flying hybrids with their iron counterparts in an effort to keep the ball down and play to the linksy Muirfield.

Thoughts?

Are we sure they don't just have a manservant play for them?

I like the move by Phil.  Driver can often get him in trouble and Muirfield is not a place where you can easily recover.  That fescue can be nasty.

FWIW, Rory said he would be using driver quite a bit.

Going to be interesting to watch since these two are paired together.

That's no longer the PC term.  They are now referred to as the "super-caddie."

I may have set my alarm for 4am. I may also have set my alarm for Tiger's tee time.

I'm not telling.

Check the venue, hole by hole, with comments by that 'wannbe winner', almost local boy,  Lee Westwood !!  Nice display of each hole with yardage markers galore.  "only 307 over that nasty bunker, no problem". gimme the 3W...

    • I’m not sure I agree. It’s just what the majority find more entertaining. Most people prefer women’s gymnastics over men in the Olympics. How much hype is there with the men’s compared to the women’s? I bet you can rattle off several big names in women’s gymnastics and only a handful of men. Women’s tennis …same thing. And sure enough, their purses are the same. However, WNBA, awful…LPGA, not near as much interest than PGA. Don’t think it’s really that complicated IMO.

    • Hence your Avatar!😜 I drink a lot of water during the day if I’m playing or exercising. I get cramps otherwise.
    • If you walk up to a food/drink kiosk at Magic Kingdom and ask the person for a cup of "magic water" they will give you a small cup of Sprite for free. About 3 fingers worth. They don't sell alcohol at MK anymore so I go over to one of the courses while she hangs out there.
    • This isn't some kind of natural fact. It's a lot more complicated than this implies.
