it could relate to which scores were eliminated when you posted the more recent ones, or it could have something to do with the course rating where you play, or who knows what.  Do you want to share your Ghin number, some of us could take a peek and give you some feedback.

Out of single digit, from 9.3 to 10.2 after a few weeks of poor play.

Up to 18.2 from 17.6 after some swing work. Typically what happens when I make swing changes. Hopefully the changes with pay off with a trend back down.

15.1    Weird, because I've been disappointed with recent play, but I just reached my lowest index in ten years.  I think I was around 21 when I joined this site.

Dropped a couple tenths to 6.5, if I could get back into the 5 range before the years up I'll be happy.

Sure! It's 0126945. My recent rounds aren't showing up witch is throwing me off a bit. My season is pretty much over anyways because I'm back in school now but maybe you guys can shed some light.

I've given up on trying to figure out how handicaps work... I have been shooting around 4 strokes under my average consistently for the last month and the only results I've seen in a .1 INCREASE in my GHIN. Could it be because it's late season or that my best round have come from the same course?

You have only 13 rounds posted, meaning you haven't got the 10 revision scores that normally equate an index, even though you may shoot some good rounds right now your also increasing the number of rounds that are in your revision so some of those higher scores may now get included when they may not have before.

I see a couple of things.  First, when you first got a handicap in June, you had 5 rounds in the computer, and your handicap was based on your two best scores of the 7 you had entered prior to June 15.  As you post more scores, the system uses a higher percentage of the scores, so the handicap will rise.  Right now its using the best 5 of your last 13.

Remember what matters is the difference between your score and the course rating (adjusted for slope, which is the "Differential" column, not between score and par.  Last, how can you say you're "consistently under your average for the past month" when you only have two scores posted in the last TWO months?

My advice, give it some time, post all your scores, and watch how things go.  Its interesting to watch not just your new scores, but the oldest scores on the list, so you can tell what score you're replacing with the new one.   Good luck!

This is an often overlooked point that makes a huge difference for those who don't have 20 rounds in. My dad doesn't keep a handicap, but a few years ago, he was playing in a charity event that required him to list one. He sent me his scorecards from the last 7 rounds he played. There was one really good round (mid - 80's) one decent round (90'ish) and 5 crappy rounds (high 90's - low 100's). He was expecting me to tell him he was a low to mid 20's handicap. I did the calculations based on course ratings and slope and came back with a 14.2. He was absolutely stunned.

That much reduction by 1/2 month worth of golf?   Or was it for longer period?

I play quite a bit, I have 10 rounds between 8/15 and 9/1 and 8 of them were used in the calculation (They were in my 10 lowest rounds).  It is also much closer to my actual ability lately, at 32.6 I was routinely shooting 62 to 65 NET

Please be careful handing out GHIN #s. With that and your last name someone can post to your account.

Sheesh no doubt. I don't have anything to hide but between GHIN and freakin' Game Golf people could probably drive to my house and knock on the door.

It is still that way??  I haven't been on GHIN since moving back to Montana but that always bugged me that someone could screw around with my account if they really wanted to.

Definitely. In fact, at least on the Northern California site (ncga.org), the GHIN number shows your first name, last name and club(s) you belong to, in addition the last revision scores (or the 20 most recent).  So, all that is needed is the GHIN number...
