-8 right now, high of 0 tomorrow.

On a happier note, got a new pair of Trues today, along with another box from Budget Golf addressed to my wife...

Shhhhhh! I'm not ready for that yet. Actually never.

I did play a round one time in Moberly, Missouri in January when the temp was around 10 degrees. I was bored and wondered if I could play or at least hit some balls.

There was nobody at the clubhouse but there was a sign that said "If you want to play put $10 in the box." So I did.

Do you remember breaking any balls?    I played once when it was 8degrees and I broke AT LEAST 6 balls, but probably more..........they get brittle.  LOL

I'm nowhere diehard enough to play in these temps in recent years, but I do sometimes when the temps hit freezing.   32 is the magic number for breaking golf balls......

Each break is unique.....

I've knocked the cover clean off and watched the core fly 100yds by itself

I've spit a ball in 2.....and watched half slice to the left and the other half slice to the right

I've cracked them and hit it solid...watching a driver tee shot only fly 175yds because the ball has cracks all though it.......LOL

You name it....I've see it in the cold.  LOL

I'm not as diehard as I used to be........

Missed a window in the cold weather to play this week.  Forecast going forward looks bleak so I guess I'll be limited to the indoor simulators where I take lessons for the next few months.

Keep a couple of golf balls in your pocket and they don't break.

That's it and with hand warmers. I took the liberty of lift, clean, and place (and a different ball) on every shot. :-D

Actually I never hit anything but irons either. I was afraid of cracking the face of my woods and getting a tee in the ground would have been a chore anyway.

I dropped a 6 foot long steel pry bar to the ground from about 20 feet one night when it was well below zero and the pry bar broke in half. Metal under stress and cold don't mix. Gave me a lot of job security for all those years I was a welder though. Always something breaking.

I was ready to play tomorrow but we're getting a blanket of snow tonight. :(

Here in Ri played thursday , about 50 . Trying to get out today , before it gets windy , 40 degrees . Any time playing in Dec is a bonus , but could be the last time out once we get any snow

The good news is I am fully acclimated to the cold after the sub zero weather here. When it warms to 30's it will feel like summer again. The high today will finally be above 10 and I didn't even wear a jacket, just a mock and North Face sweater will do. It was -13 on our way home from dinner last night. Just need the snow to clear and we'll be good to go.

You have a crap attitude. Try switching balls every hole, or do what it takes to keep the ball at a decent temperature

Hmmm. So a ball that's been in a pocket with hand warmers knows to break anyway just because it's cold outside? SMH.

Supposed to get above zero tomorrow here! I won't brave it unless it's above 40, so might be a while.

I'm playing Tuesday, 30* to 40*. I know not a record setter, but the wind could be anywhere from a light breeze to ridiculous... down at the shore.

Then over the holiday's, we're down  in North Carolina. Who knows? 30's to 70's. Then we're back in Ct. and it's at the indoor place until spring.

I ordered a Chicken and an Egg on the Internet, to find out which came first... I'll keep you posted!

Last weekend it was 4 degrees while we played BUT because we were playing in glorious sunshine and it was a very still day it was actually quite pleasant. However as soon as the sub disappeared the apparent temps just plummeted! Having said that I think we have been really fortunate with the weather up to now. Today was another cracking day and it's supposed to stay nice right through December. Regards Mailman

    • A 5400 yd course is not that short for gents driving it 160 yards considering the approach shot lengths they are going to be faced with on Par 4s.  Also, for the course you are referring to I estimate the Par 4s have to average longer than 260 yds, because the Par 5s are 800 yds or so, and if there are four Par 3s averaging 130 the total is 1320 yds.  This leaves 4080 yds remaining for 12 Par 4s.  That is an average of 340 per hole. Anyway, if there are super seniors driving it only 160ish and breaking 80 consistently, they must be elite/exceptional in other aspects of their games.  I play a lot of golf with 65-75 yr old seniors on a 5400 yd course.  They all drive it 180-200 or so, but many are slicers and poor iron players.  None can break 80. I am 66 and drive it 200 yds.  My average score is 76.  On that course my average approach shot on Par 4s is 125 yds.  The ten Par 4s average 313 yds.  By that comparison the 160 yd driver of the ball would have 165 left when attempting GIR on those holes.
    • I don't think you can snag lpga.golf without the actual LPGA having a reasonable claim to it. You can find a ton of articles of things like this, but basically: 5 Domain Name Battles of the Early Web At the dawn of the world wide web, early adopters were scooping up domain names like crazy. Which led to quite a few battles over everything from MTV.com You could buy it, though, and hope the LPGA will give you a thousand bucks for it, or tickets to an event, or something like that. It'd certainly be cheaper than suing you to get it back, even though they'd likely win. As for whether women and golfers can learn that ".golf" is a valid domain, I think that's up to you knowing your audience. My daughter has natalie.golf and I have erik.golf.

    • April 2025 - Pinehurst, playing Mid Pines and Southern Pines + 3 other courses. Probably Talamore, Mid-South, and one other.  July 2025 - Bandon Dunes, just me and my dad.
